So, what do I do about the SSS? |
|
I signed up, because I'm 18, but I can't go because I've got, in a nutshell, ADHD, Asperger's, dygraphia, diabetes, a mild OCD.
How does this work?

1. Are you talking about the Draft? Selective Service? |
|
If and when it starts you'll probably be exempted I would think. Bryant Check it out --> http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com

|
My suggestion: Meet a nice Canadian girl. Plan a future, buy some property in British Columbia.

4. Seeing how there is not a draft.... |
|
All we can speculate on is what if one was instituted.
The military will not currently accept a diabetic or anyone who needs daily medication, or anyone with a history of mental health problems (ADHD).
I'm not saying some people don't occassionally slip around these -- my brother for one had ADHD and didn't tell them; however, that's the medical requirements currently to enlist.

5. But is that applied to homeland security as well? |
|
If they go with the "skills draft" previously proposed, they would not just be drafting for military but also for homeland security. Can't see how any of those conditions would exempt anyone from being part of homeland security as say, a data entry person or a mailroom clerk for homeland security.
I am sure there would be plenty of slots they could fill with those that wouldn't be accepted for combat duty.

6. Remember the being called back to active duty regs! |
|
Re: the regs relating to the mobilization of Marines who have finished their active military service but are still part of the Individual Ready Reserve and are subject to being called back to active duty.
There are two categories of people who are exempt from being called back.
One, confirmed HIV positive soldiers.
The other are priests.

:-)
I already knew about the HIV rule
I did not recall seeing the priest rule.
I thought it interesting (the fellow referred to the Marine regs - which I assume he has or that they are on line somewhere).

11. Google the regs - I did not do so as the HIV rule was known to |
|
me -
and my only surprise was on the priest rule.
The Regs are on line - but a bear to get through.
But in answer to your question: "So nothing that's authoritative?"
the answer is - Yes- you are correct - I have quick access to nothing that's authoritative" re the Priest rule (5300.3 covers the HIV INFECTION)
Sorry
:-)

9. Hopefully, you're exempt |
|
my son turns 18 next week and doesn't have any of those problems. He thought about the military until I started showing him articles about the extented tours and Bush's raping of the vets.
