The Truth About Social Security It's Not Just For Senior Citizens |
|
SS also covers People with disibilitites and life threatening illnesses. MS, Aids, cancer, spinal cord injuries and the list goes on. Also you would be entitled to either Medicaire or Medicaid. It also covers children up till the age of 18 (21-22 if they go to college) when a parent dies. While we are on the subject, ask your congressman & Senators why they have not only SS, but FERS (federal Employees Retirement System) COLA increases, Thrift Savings Plans that are matched by the Government and paid for with our tax dollars, not to mention a lucrative health benefits package. What are they willing to forego to see that SS is kept solvent. How many of our troops that died in this war will now have their families covered by SS. All of them. To take this away from their survivors would be nothing more than Rape. Save Social Security

6. This is something the Rethugs don't mention. Currently, 1.8 percent |
|
of your earnings (up to $90,000) go into Social Security Disability Insurance premiums. You pay half and your employer pays half. Newspaper-level discussions often use the inflated figure of 12.4 percent of earnings going into Social Security Retirement. That's the total, including disability as well as retirement. Your share, deducted from your paycheck, is 6.2 percent of earnings, including 5.3 percent for retirement (about 85 percent) and 0.9 percent for disability (about 15 percent).
Would disability insurance be privatized too, or would it just be dropped, and the 1.8 percent made available to brokers and insurance companies for "privatized retirement accounts"?
If disability insurance is privatized too, would the 85 percent - 15 percent split of FICA.stay the same, or would health insurance companies want a bigger share, at the expense of our retirements?
Health insurance lobbyists are probably scheming to get "their share" of our money right now, along with pension insurance lobbyists and Wall Street lobbyists. They're like packs of hyenas, smelling weakness in their prey and fighting for position when the big kill goes down.
