Self-described fascist voted for Bush |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-03-05 08:43 PM by ZombieNixon
So, this morning in AP Government class, we took one of the political orientation tests as part of our unit on political parties. (I wound up as a raving liberal populist, well to the left of most of the class - this is very red country.) When we all read our scores aloud and gave some sort of interpretation, this kid who sits a few desks behind me declares himself a "fascist" and he was "proud to vote for Bush." Looks like they're finally showing their true colors. Anyhow, if you think most people act shocked at this, think again. Most of the class starts laughing, and he says "I'm serious," at which they continue laughing.
I feel that one of the greatest lessons being lost on my generation is that of the importance of free expression, considering over one third of HS students think the 1st Amendment goes to far. It really scares me that I'll have to work with these people will be running the world one day. I hope I get there first.

1. I hope you get there first, as well. |

Sounds like you're with a bunch of students that haven't had an original thought for years, but a fascist and proud of it? Well, he's a dolt - albeit, maybe dangerous.

2. Ummmm....actually, wasn't the "fascist" just... |
|
freely expressing his opinion too? Don't see what the problem is in this one case.

3. I have no problem with his saying it, but I don't think people get |
|
the idea that fascism results in the elimination of freedom. I forgot to mention this in the OP, but I've known this guy for quite some time, he used to be a liberal-leaning moderate, and is now an ultra-right-winger. He's very ambitious, and quite intelligent, and if he wants to do something, he has enough drive to do it.

5. His brother's in the army, and he's "considering" joining up after HS. |
|
Who knows what that means? He now strikes me as an armchair warrior.

8. Most people laughed at this guy |
|
because they think he is a clown. On the other hand, many Germans laughed at the Nazis until it was too late.
