Poor Fox News--their cheezy push poll didn't work!
Saw this at pollingreport.com, specifically

http://pollingreport.com/social.htm

scroll down to the FuxNews poll of Jan 25-26, and check out the typically loaded questions:

"Which of the following options do you think poses the larger risk: investing some of your Social Security contributions in mutual funds, which are subject to the fluctuations of the stock market, OR, leaving all of your Social Security funds in the system, which could run out of money and possibly not pay you full benefits?"

and then:

"Some people would like to have more control over their Social Security savings and personally make investment decisions for a small portion of those funds, while other people would rather leave all of their Social Security contributions in the system and not make any investment decisions. Which comes closer to your view -- would you rather have more control over your Social Security funds, or prefer to leave the funds in the system?"

(of COURSE they get a 52% "give me control" result, here)

But here's the kicker:

"Some people think individuals should be allowed to put a small portion of their Social Security contributions into a personal account, which could be invested in mutual funds. While the personal accounts would be subject to the fluctuations of the stock market, individuals would own the funds when they retire. Others think it is better to leave that money in the Social Security system so it could be used to help pay benefits when you retire. Which comes closer to your view?"

ha ha! even with this incredibly loaded, leading question, only 44% say they want the personal account: 49% say "leave in system."

Take that and sit on it, Rupert Fucking Murdoch.

9. oh no these are the real thing
and this is giving me hope. i mean you must admit having the ability to invest your money sounds good. so it will get many yes answers. but thats not really what it is. you dont get to actually touch your money. and you dont get to see it or feel it until a certain age. and you can only invest it certain accounts the government will pick for you. i think after you tell people all of those things it makes a big difference.

i remember my first 401k i would look at all those choices and had no idea what to do with my measily 6%. so i left it up to the company to decide for me. i lost more then earned. its a crap shoot especially if you have no clue.

10. Another hopeful sign from polling report
I've posted about this before, but I wish more people would notice:

go to that same page I'd linked before

http://pollingreport.com/social.htm

and scroll down to the CNN/Gallup poll of Jan. 7. VERY important distinction that creates a huge swing against piratization.

When the question is put like this (emphasis mine):
"As you may know, one idea to address concerns with the Social Security system would allow people who retire in future decades to invest some of their Social Security taxes in the stock market and bonds, but would reduce the guaranteed benefits they get when they retire. Do you think this is a good idea or a bad idea?" N=1,008 adults, MoE ± 3

55% say it's a BAD IDEA, vs. only 40% supporting it.

I will say it again--HAMMER HOME the idea that GUARANTEED BENEFITS are GUARANTEED to be reduced under Chimpy's plan. We can win this if we do it often enough, and stay on message

11. But it's extremely biased, as all right-wing polls always are....
It's hopeful that even the bias didn't fool that many people, but I fear the regime will simply use the info to hone their message.

The Repigs have been doing this for decades. We used to get mail for the previous owners of our first house. These people wrote the book on Freepers. It was eye-opening to see the hate mail and biased "polls." This was back in the mid-1980s.

We used to write comments and return the postage-paid cards.

2. Here is what is funny
Iras, roths, 401Ks, etc are retirement accounts. social security is like an insurance policy, if the investments in THOSE retirement accounts fails

3. So many negative connotations of "system"
And the funny thing is, they can contribute to a personal account right now (they don't need the "system" at all) :eyes:

7. I find the part where over 50% say he has no mandate interesting
Apparantly only he and his idiotic hard-core supporters think he has one.

8. deny, deny, deny
It's worked so far.

We have to remember, ** doesn't want to lead, he just wants to expend the minimum effort to accomplish an objective. He's always been happy to win ugly. Anything he can manage that siphons off money from the hated New-Deal SS program will be viewed as a major triumph.

12. What many people are failing to see
is that this is not only a retirement account but also an insurance program that if you become disabled for any reason there would be some assistance available. B*sh's privatizing of the SS would also bring an elimination to any disability fund as far as I can see. So people need to open their eyes to all and not just fixate on the retirement position of Social Security!!!
