A plug for the "Progressive Populist" newspaper
Edited on Fri Feb-04-05 06:22 PM by bobweaver
Published every 2 weeks and mailed to you by subscription. (22 isssues per year.) I have been a subscriber for several years.

Many of the major 'colyumnists' are given regular space. The current issue has articles by Jim Hightower, Margot McMillen, Matt Jenkins, Thomas D. Rowley, DeEtte Hurrman, A.V. Krebs, Gene Lyons, Joe Conason, Arianna Huffington, John Nichols, Gloria Totten, Hanthan Newman, Mark Weisbrot, Steven Wolfson, Dave Zweifel, Sidney Blumenthal, Arvonne Fraser, Brian Gilmore, Wayne O'Leary, Hank Kalet, Amanda G. Little, Joan Retsinas, Sam Uretsky, Phil Tajitsu Nash, John Buell, Margie Burns, Mara Voukydis, Jesse Jackson, Holly Sklar, Alexander Cockburn, Ralph Nader, Ted Rall, Kent Paterson, Rev. Allen Brill, Sam Smith, Norman Solomon, Marty Jezer, Molly Ivins and Donald Kaul.

Online edition, too, but these people really deserve your money, it could become a big nationwide progressive newspaper. So I would recommend subscribing to the print edition. $32.95 for one year (22 issues) or $54.95 for two years (44 issues).

1. Yes - a friend lent me copy
and it was great! I had not heard of it before but it sure deserves wider distribution.

2. I once lived and taught in Storm Lake... I am surprised
I would never have expected Storm Lake to be the home of such a paper!

It was a place where the lack of employment demands citizens (many Hmong and Hispanic but workers of all ethnic and educational backgrounds) give employers way too much rope.

The best thing going there was the Hy-Vee, an employee owned grocery store.

I miss living across from the lake, but I don't miss the treatment.

3. Surprised this is in Iowa
especially in western Iowa. It was the western third of the state that went for Bush and turned the state red.
