Dead human bodies on display...this seems real creepy to me |
|
http://www.msichicago.org/bodyworlds/index.htmlThroughout the ages, medical scholars and students have strived to understand how our bodies function through exploration of real human specimens. BODY WORLDS, one of the most highly attended touring exhibitions in the world, takes this tradition one step further by presenting a new look at the human body.
The exhibition features more than 200 authentic human specimens, including entire bodies, individual organs and transparent body slices that have been preserved through the process of “plastination,” a technique that replaces bodily fluids and fat. BODY WORLDS offers a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see and understand our own physiology and health and to gain new appreciation and respect for what it means to be human

I was going to say...I was an ICU/ER nurse and my husband was a pathologist. Been there done that. I can't imagine why someone would not think that was a very interesting exhibit but then we were used to eating lunch during autopsies.

Don't remember which, but the exhibit is very interesting.
Edit: My husband and I both worked as surg. techs when we were young for 13 and 10 years respectively. So for us it's been there done that too. Maybe to someone who has not seen a body laid open it's different.

I'm thinking placemats. :D
I'm thinking of going, and taking some teens along, but I'll reserve the right to get grossed out and go sit in the food court till everyone else is ready to go.

Anything that will take people's minds off crap like "Survivor" and "American Idol," and redirect it towards beneficial knowledge, is all right with me. ;)

12. It is definitely interesting |

This exhibit is something I'd want to see and fully appreciate human anatomy. Seeing a cadaver in a med school just isn't the same.

it was one of the most fascinating and educational things I've ever seen. I thought it might be kind of creepy but it wasn't at all. I'd recommend it to anyone.

18. Body Worlds was fascinating! |
|
My husband and I recently saw it, and we were wowed. Now, I am a nurse, so maybe this makes a difference, but I don't think so..We saw many non-medical people there, and they didn't look grossed out. We overheard many respectful comments and questions. And yes, there was a man on a horse, all completely preserved w/this plastination process. There's a second exhibit opening soon, that is supposed to show many different things. For instance, the role that fat plays in our deaths. I highly recommend this exhibit.

19. Sounds cool, but 20-odd bucks to see is a bit steep. |
|
You can see parts of it from the basic science gallery, but the guards shoo you away pretty quick, as my friends and I discovered friday.
