I wasn't blacklisted, but I lost my job for attending the Fargo Protest |
|
I came back to work Friday and discovered my face had been plastered all over local TV screaming about Bush. I've been working for the worst repig asshole for 2 years. He's been on my case ever since the election for posting online, he hated my bumper stickers and then Friday, he fired me at lunch time. No notice, no nothing. He said some bullshit about performance (after sending me an iTunes gift certificate that said "great job" just a few days before that)
I'm liberated from the republican, but I am PISSED....what freedom of speech? I took the day of, without pay mind you, with 3 days notice to attend this protest.

This guy, just like George, seemingly his "mentor" and "hero", is nothing more than an ABUSER OF POWER!

4. Sue his arse & savor the respite from his bullying! |
|
I hope you don't have dependents relying on your paycheck, that would make it doubly hard to slap this bully down. But, while you are giving him an education in 'freedom of speech' ... I know you're going to love the break from having to put up w/the tension that comes from having to work for him. Try to savor that whilst getting your right hook ready (a little yin & yang)!
btw- I love your sig, sums it up! ... Progressive, Pissed Off and Provoked!

Your idiot former boss won't know what hits him if you still have the gift certificate and they help you sue. It would be sweet revenge for you and the millions who will be stiffed if the shrub's privatization scheme passes.

cases like this are much bigger in scope than just how it affects your situation ... it's amazing how we love to talk protecting "free speech" in this country but employers can fire you if they don't like your politics ...
this seems like a perfect case for the ACLU ... the only way we can stop this kind of crap is to make them pay a high price for it ...

13. If MN is anything like IL |
|
Edited on Mon Feb-07-05 09:32 AM by Norquist Nemesis
it's going to be hard to sue, let alone win. We're an 'at will' state which basically says the employer can fire you "at will". If he doesn't like the color of your eyes, your perfume, you're a cat person and he's a dog person...doesn't matter. The only thing that can get him is discriminating practices (race, creed, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation). Of course, those are hard to prove because he can come back and say it was something other than those things.
The only time the at will even remotely benefits an employee is to walk out without notice from a job.
This is all part of what's been given away to corporations and businesses in the war against working people. It really pisses me off when Republicans will spout off how a business is "entitled" to hire/fire anyone they choose for any reason and this is the way it should be. :grr:
You should be able to get UE though. With no warnings or notice, he doesn't have a leg to stand on with UE. He'll fight it the first round though; it's common practice to do so.
I hope you're able to find something soon.

14. Enjoy your new freedom - |
|
6 years ago I quit my job working for a ditto-head. One of the best things I've done.
Retaliation-wise, there may not be a lot you can do. Depending on how you were fired, you're probably entitled to unemployment. But if this is a small company, you may be out of luck for anything else. Small businesses are exempt from all of the juicy federal laws that big businesses have to follow.
Of course, if you have any dirt on him.......

15. Yes it is a small business. I really just want the UE Bennies |
|
We'll see what happens. I'm sure he will fight. MN does have in it's constitution the right to not be discriminated against for Political Party Affiliation. I don't have the money to fight him properly, of course. I did file a labor complaint over a few of the dirty items I know he's guilty of, nothing that will get him in too much trouble though.
I have a small business that I started last year, and there's no time like the present to make it work.
If I get the UI, he just gave me a 26 week vaction. The jobs here are nil. There won't be anything unless we move.
Thanks for all the kind words though. They are appreciated. I guess I really just wanted to make the point out there to anyone who is working for a pig... if they want dirt on you, they will find it. I had DU and Randi's board thrown in my face big time. Also a freedom of speech issue, what i do on my own time is none of his business... Even if I plaster my name all over the internet, it's still none of his business.
