I wonder what America would be like.....
if three political figures were not assassinated:

Martin Luther King Jr.
John F. Kennedy
Robert Kennedy

I think if they were still alive, America would be a more liberal and tolerant society, and neo-conservatives would be rare.

2. Even though he wasn't a politician ... John Lennon
Talk about a double-dose: we lost Lennon and elected Raygun within practically a month. What if Lennon hadn't died and Carter had won in '80? I can always dream ...

4. i think mlk more than anything.
Edited on Tue Feb-08-05 05:17 PM by ashmanonar
although jfk and rfk had their place in the whole matter, i think it was mlk that really pushed change.

a few days ago, there was a thread that contained a post regarding the later activities of mlk jr. does anyone know what thread that was?

on edit: and yes, lennon was a sore blow. we lost a great man.

5. Yes, but RFK would have probably been elected president,
which would have meant no Nixon, no Watergate... Everything subsequent would have been different.

6. MLK could've been the first African American president.
That would've been AWESOME!

7. RFK was considering MLK as running mate
Now THAT would have totally changed the WORLD, not just this country.

12. Wow, never knew that
That would have been one heck of a ticket there. Please excuse my ignorance as it was before my time, but who did end up winning that election?

10. The right, who killed them, didn't know yet
They killed these men but they didn't assassinate their characters. They made them martyrs for OUR cause and permanent annoyances for themselves. They haven't made the same mistake in a long time. I mourn these men's deaths but their deaths were not in vain. The right's tactics now are different.

If Karl Rove were in charge of destroying the Kennedys, he would have let them live but spun them into something less than heroes. Dr. King would have been easy--he was a black man. A special investigation here, a raised eyebrow there, and the white public would see him the same way they see Snoop Dogg or 50 Cent.
