So...bush's own SS actuary says bush's plan will make SS WORSE SOONER
ONLY BUSH can be such a total f*ck-up. Mind-boggling. Absolutely stunning incompetence.

The Bush Plan to Make Social Security Worse Off

The year's budget writing will be complicated by the parallel debate over Social Security. While Mr. Bush last week acknowledged that private accounts, by themselves, wouldn't help Social Security's long-term financial outlook, now the Social Security Administration's chief actuary has informed the White House that its plan would hasten to 2012 from 2018 the date when Social Security will begin taking in less in payroll-tax revenues than it is paying out in benefits.

The actuary, Stephen Goss , wrote White House adviser Charles Blahous that the costs to Social Security of workers diverting some payroll taxes to their personal accounts will exceed the amounts by which the government would reduce payments from the accounts to retired workers or their survivors to offset the initial payroll-tax diversion. "Annual cash-flow deficits (negative annual balances) appear in 2012, or six years earlier than under current law," Mr. Goss wrote.

5. Goss is a GOPer appointed because he was a yes man - this will
not affect him. Heck he got the job despite not being a fulling qualified actuary.

We already had the 2012 data - the GOP is trying to get the data out so as to now seem "honest"

Next should come a background discussion of how medicare will be "bankrupt" much earlier than Soc Sec's 2018 "payroll tax slightly less than Benefit pay out" day. Indeed they will not discuss the Medicare Trust funds - albeit that they are minimal.

4. And is this "Stephen Goss" related at all to CIA's "Porter Goss?"
Please! This is the same Admin. that brought us the WMD lies, and yellow cake lies. They'll lie to whatever extent it takes to get what they want.

I saw SEVERAL high-ranking SS employees at a Senate Committee hearing about a week ago, and ALL of them agreed that Social Security was NOT in any danger until about 2050, and even then, ONLY needed minor adjustments. At that hearing (televised on CSPAN), these SS employees also testified (WITH visual aids) about SS internal emails which were being sent around instructing SS employees to "sell" the new privatization plan to the public.

Also testifying at that hearing (ONLY about a week ago), FDR's grandson also testified, and confirmed that SS was NOT in any serious, immediate trouble. And HE had worked for SS for many years.

6. Have you seen Santorum's booklet on SS?
I think it was on Rawstory.com...
He had all the talking points defined on how to sell the new SS deal to the public. So it's a broad based RW STRATEGY, and the Repubs are supposed to be adhering to the party lines and talking points, not vote their conscience on this (I doubt they have a conscience anyway).
