well after this latest stupidity from the state of virginia
A bill passed to allow fines of $50 for low rider pants; not to mention their stance on gay issues - if the earth just opened up this afternoon and swallowed virginia lock stock and barrel I wouldn't shed a tear.

Sorry to the "good" Virginians out there, you know I'm not talking about you.

What is it up there? Is there something in the drinking water? I thought Texas was backwards, but Virginia wins hands down.

2. Well, they wanted to make sure it was a crime to not report your
miscarriage to the police within 12 hours, but couldn't get away with that so they looked for another way to police sex. And the popularity of lowriders now skyrockets.

17. Oh, there are
The state's infrastructure is about to fall about because it can't afford to repair roads. College costs continue to rise even as financial aid is cut. Which is a travesty, because in poor economic times, the demand for higher education is greater than usual because of unemployed folks going back to school. Same for libraries.

3. If this doesn't get the young people to vote
nothing will.

Though I really doubt that this law will be enforced strictly at all. You'd have to fine (almost) everyone at any high school.

5. i wonder what the criteria is for getting a fine?

6. I saw that this morning....
the fine is actually for deliberate display of undergarments meant to cover the intimate areas below the waist. LOL God forbid anyone catch a glimpse of an elastic waistband. What about pantyhose? What if I have my slip showing? Or worse yet, what if my skirt gets tucked up in the back of my pantyhose and I don't realize it? If it's deemed to be lewd I guess I'm in trouble.I understand that the intent was to stop individuals from wearing the pants low and the underwear high but honestly, who the hell are these people to dictate fashion to anyone?
Maybe I'll buy a couple of thongs, make earrings out of them and prance around Richmond for awhile.

<sarcasm on>Let's see, we got war, natural disasters, a nightmare of an economy, rampant crime, people without adequate food or heat, children without access to healthcare or a decent educational system...but more importantly we have folks showing their skivvies and this just will not be tolerated.

10. Just imagine the police testimony at the trial.
"Your honor, the perpetrators underwear was showing by two and a half inches".

"Officer, how did you determine this"?

"I measured it".

*******************************

Back in the 40's, my father taught at an all girl college in Mississippi. At the campus dances, it was against school rules for the dancers to be closer than 6 inches (at the waist). Faculty monitors actually used a 6 inch measuring stick to enforce the rule.

7. That sounds like fun. Let little old ladies be the police.
I can see them now. Grab them from behind and pull them right off their feet. So much for each ticket we give out and they can cut out SS. Va. is really with it.:nopity:

8. I'm sure that you are joking when you ask about the drinking
water. However, I've begun to wonder if there is some sort of environmental problem in the U.S. that is causing brain damage to millions of Americans. I'm still half kidding. But, how can we explain why Americans are continuing to vote for candidates that hurt them?

9. There's a large population
Of conservative morons (by conservative I don't mean politically, I mean those that long for the good ol' days of Massive Resistance when women and blacks "knew their place") that politicians like to appeal to. That way, they don't have to do any real work.

This law strikes me as something that's not meant to prevent low-riding pants, but to give police another excuse to harass black teenagers. Like they really needed another one...

12. You could be right..
Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 10:09 AM by youthere
but even if that wasn't what prompted the bill, it certainly will be used for that purpose. Yes I can thing of nothing more intimidating than a black man displaying the waistband of his Joe Boxers. This is one of those "we laugh so that we do not cry" cases.

13. I live in a college town in Va
and every female coed will be ticketed because their thongs show in the back when they bend over! But I agree with the earlier poster who said this legislation was introduced with young black men in mind. God help the carpenters of the state!

18. I'm not sure if we should be worried about that.
But just to be safe, let me know where you see this, and I'll investigate those young women's thongs for them.

Hey, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it.

16. I live in Virginia!
And I was shocked when they passed that anti-gay bill that essentially cancels all legal documents between gay partners like the power of attorney, etc.
This new "fashion police" thing is just too much.

19. Mamma always told me to make sure I was wearing clean underwear
...just in case I was out driving and got run over and splattered all over the road, God Forbid I should be wearing dirty underwear!

I guess she was right after all. She just didn't foresee the advent of the VUP (Virginia Underwear Police, applications now being taken).
