Anyone else see BushCo's SS propaganda ad on CNN?
Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 11:35 AM by tridim
I just saw it as I flipped past that formerly decent channel. It's basically Idiotboy lying his ass off about his plan with a request at the end to call congress and tell them to "strengthen Social Security". There was also the obligatory money shots of happy seniors and hard working, happy youngsters.

This can't be legal, can it?

1. If it's the same one I saw
it was an ad by "Progress for America" or a name similar to that.

3. Groups like "Progress for America" are all part of BushCo
At least that's what I assume.

2. Ironic that he has all of this money
to start an advertising campaign to spread his propaganda of all of what he feels needs to be fixed that most people in the know state is not broken!!! Why not put this extra money into the programs that he feels that are in need of fixing instead of wasting it on false and misleading commercials and people going on TV and spreading their love of lies!!!!

4. Issue Advocacy...Third Party GOOP Group
These are ads that "non-affiliated" political action groups buy. MOVE ON does this for good causes.

Unfortunately these ads are effective. Repugnicans have been using them for years...(remember the old man & woman ridiculing "Hillarycare" a couple years back?). "Club For Growth"...a wingnut coven that used to be headed by Stephen Moore is one group that likes to do crap like this...either to go after Democrats or "renegate" Repugnicans (like Spector in his Senate primary) or kiss the regime's ass by making it seem like there's popular support for their ponzi schemes.

If it's a paid "commercial" and has some type of disclaimer of who paid of it (always very small print at the end), it's very legal.

Two issues should be looked at:

1.) To see if any of OUR tax money went through channels to this group to pay for, produce or in any way assist in this ad. That falls into the Armstrong Williams catagory.

2.) CNNservative's practices in which groups they sell time to and which ones they don't. This network has exercized some dubious judgement in allowing Issue Advocacy or controversial ads in the past...most recent example: the United Church ads about gay marriage. These practices should be exposed.

5. I don't know
but to think they accused President Clinton of running a "permanent campaign."
I don't remember a case where the POTUS did commercials to promote his policies. Usually there's plenty of air time on political shows for surrogates to get the message out.
These people have made up all new rules in the art of persuasion with their crass and coarse approach to bringing people around to their point of view. It goes beyond propaganda...
