Guy started yelling during non-smokin joe's answer. So ol' joe just stands there grimacing, and Sharpton says, "Hold on a minute. Don't give us that phont liberal crap. This didn't happen at any of the other debates and it ain't gonna happen here. We've got something to say and you're not gonna stop us. so if you got a beef with us come up here and tell us!!!" Silence from the protesters. Huge applause from audience. Sheepish look from Britt.
Of course, the actual sharpton bit was much more eloquent than my summary. I'll tell ya, that ten seconds was worth was worth the monthly cable bill.

RE-publican RE-count RE-districting RE-call
slapping the donkey too, calling failure of Dems to get "exit" when they gave Bush a blank check for "entrance" into Iraq--"Now THAT's a miserable failure."
Direct scolding of Kerry and Gephardt, who both used that exact term to describe Bush.

lighten up. Everybody is entitled to how they feel here. We all know who the top contenders will be, but I too thought Al Sharpton nailed it with those idiots who repeatedly disrupted. I like his tenacity. Sometimes it's nice to see someone say what they really feel.

Otherwise, I'd take that action.
Would Kucinich/Sharpton win? Probably not. But at this point, the Dems could run Homer Simpson and Krusty the Clown as a ticket and pick up at least 100 electoral votes.

Sharpton accused someone of being a racist child molestor when he knew the accusations were false. He eventually had to pay an enormous fine as a result.
How can we call ourselves Progressive and simply ignore something like that. Sharpton has also sold out the Democratic cause numerous times, endorsing execreble Republicans like Al D'Amato.
The Rev. Al may be glib on the stump but he's a creep.

27. For someone who makes as many mistakes |
|
as you do, you're awfully unforgiving.
I remember, for example, one time when you revealed mental health information about a "friend" of yours on these very boards, providing enough personal identifying information for any whacko passing through to identify her and prey on her vulnerabilities. If I remember correctly, you had to have the whole thread removed when another poster demonstrated how he or she could easily track down your friend. Was that wise? Did that exhibit good judgment? No. Of course not. Yet people forgive, they move on, they take your new positions and expect that you've grown and improved. They don't say: "Remember when jiacinto posted that poor woman's medical information on DU? Because of that, I will never support him." That would be unfair and wrong. It is unfortunate that you cannot extend Mr. Sharpton the same courtesy...

In the same way that you accuse all of Lieberman's detractors of being racist because he's Jewish, the principle of transferrence dictates that someone could accuse you of being racist because you don't support Sharpton.
In other words, your logic is flawed. And Sharpton did just fine tonight, by the way.

He said as much on the moveon.org mock vote interview. Essentially he said he would consider his candidacy a success if the party is compelled to address issues of substance because of his outspokeness.
He was sizzling tonight! Actually, I was pleased with all of them for avoiding the sniping, for the most part, and presenting a cohesive Democratic message, while highlighting the differences of their respective campaigns.

I love having him in the field. I'd vote for him in a heartbeat if he gets the nod, but I wouldn't back him at this point. Not because I dislike him, but because I think he's going to stay very focused on issues for "people of color" and neglect a lot of others in the process. I don't think it's conscious or deliberate, I just have a gut feeling about it.
My mom always said go with your first instinct, so I think I'll stick with what seems to work. ;-)
