My piece of shit congressman Clay Shaw...
just finished speaking in support of *'s SS plan. I saved the newsletter he sent last month because I just knew he was blowing smoke up my skirt. He states the following:

"Strengthen and Protect Social Security

President Bush has said strengthening Social Security will be a top priority of his Administration in 2005. As a senion member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security, I am committed to strengthening and protecting Social Security.

I will fight for a plan to ensure Social Security meets the needs of today's workers while protecting current benefits - and does not touch one dime of the Social Security Trust Fund, does not cut any benefits for current retirees, does not privatize the program and does not raise taxes."

I have written to him twice to voice my concerns about Social Security, but have not yet received any response.

I lived in a different part of Broward County when Shaw was originally elected, so I don't remember any of the circumstances of how he came to be in office in such a heavily Democratic county. I suspect that some re-districting was done at that time to carve out a Republican niche for him. (There are 4 different representatives that serve various parts of my zip code.)

I need help in writing a letter to him. I'm new at this activism stuff and want to make sure I've got my facts straight.

1. Is this the same Clay Shaw
featured in Oliver Stone's "JFK" and played by Tommy Lee Jones?

4. I kind of doubt it...
It's been a long time since I saw "JFK", and I don't remember anyone by that name. This Clay Shaw is in his 60's, and was mayor of Ft. Lauderdale when I moved here in 76.

5. Here is the Clay Shaw from JFK
http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/CIAshaw.htm

Anyway, it doesn't matter. What matters is this Congressman who wants to kill Social Security, the most successful program of the last 100 years, and it is already a mini program compared to what they have in most other Western democracies.

Oh, but I forgot...We're not a democracy anymore. let's not forget that the Smirk proposal claims to be descended from Pinochet's disastrous private accounts program.

3. It's just amazing to me that there's a small
little loud handful who want to do away with our SS and Millions of us and we are seemingly at their mercy.

We can do this with all of us sticking together and fighting for what is ours. They are selling this Social Security Scam like they did the Iraqi Invasion..with fear!

Thank you for your activism.

7. Lucky you...
In addition to Shaw, I've got Bill Nelson and Mel Martinez in the Senate. Plus the big bonus - Jebbie's governor!
