Guckert thinks he's being martyred, new comment he made to local paper
As you know, Jim Guckert aka "Jeff Gannon" resides somewhere in Wilmington DE (my home town). They did a story on it but a reporter from the Wilmington News Journal was actually able to get a few quotes from him for the article. Seems Jim/Jeff thinks we're out to get him and he's done absolutely nothing wrong.

Judge for yourself:

http://www.delawareonline.com/newsjournal/local/2005/02/10whitehouserepor.html

"I asked a question at a White House press briefing and this is what happened to me," Guckert told The News Journal on Wednesday after announcing his resignation. "If this is what happens to me, what reporter is safe?"

and

"There are people out there who will turn people's lives inside out," Guckert said. "They tried to intimidate me, punish me. Then they tried to embarrass me, and they've done a pretty good job of that."

Neither White House officials nor Talon News pressured him to resign, he said.

3. buahahaha
I guess the reporters that are safe are the ones with actual credentials that use their real names?*

*unless they aren't echoing the White House talking points, of course, in which case it's open season on them.

4. Umm, Jeff
Jeff, you did ask us to "Bring it on" - no? Do you want any cheese with your whine?

What is that old saying - "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen"?

If you were on the up & up, nothing would have happened to you.

9. What happened to him was the TRUTH and FACTS about him were exposed
Not LIES. Not UNTRUTHS. Not innuendos.

But FACTS. Actual provable FACTS about his OWN BEHAVIOUR.

And on goes the usual rightwingnut cry when the TRUTH and FACTS about them are exposed:

WAHHHH WAHHHH WAHHHH

12. "The Passion of the Freep"
Edited on Thu Feb-10-05 09:38 AM by chookie
He's upset about having his utter hypocrisy, his double life, and his utter lack of credentials as a "journalist" exposed, after having gotten, literally, so close to power. And he is so pathologically authoritarian that he can't even mentally process the contradiction of having claimed to speak for "mainstream moral Christian America" and having posted a picture of himself on an "escort" site in his briefs.

Sorry, "Jeff" -- the mainstream isn't going to buy it.

The guy who loved to harp on "the blue dress" now has a public embarassment of his own to deal with.

He's upset that "digging up dirt" and exposing people is not all one-sided.

Tom Daschle and Joe Wilson have reason to laugh at this guy today, after what he did to them.

In other words -- look for him to be picked up by Fox, or made a "pundit." I'm serious. The fascists in power fear being exposed so much that they unconditionally support each other, and aggressively promote those who get caught in misdoing or failure.

13. Statement from Talon News Editor in Chief
http://www.theconservativevoice.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=2811

Talon News Washington, DC reporter and White House Correspondent Jeff Gannon submitted his resignation from our organization effective February 8, 2005.

I understand and support Jeff's decision, and have accepted the resignation.

We are currently evaluating candidates to fill this critical assignment, and anticipate minimal interruption of Talon's coverage of our nation's capitol and the White House in the meantime.

14. Speaking for mainstream moral christian America
and having posted a picture of himself on an escort site!! Maybe there is not much of a contradiction there at all. Maybe thats why conservatives are so feisty and hateful. The easiest way to piss off a conservative is to tell the truth. Jeff's clients are at freeperville; and on Sunday's and Wednesdays they are in Church. Praise the Lord.

23. Did the WH use bloggers to control news about Guckert and Plame?
Gluckert and the WH were in a dicey situation. Fitzgerald must have known about Guckert's escort services and possibly his involvement in "M4M" with certain higher-ups in the WH. And while the MSM hasn't published anything substantive about Guckert, that doesn't mean that no reporters were looking in to him, especially since he was on the list of reporters that Fitzgerald called and had access to that confidential memo. He was on Froomkin's radar and, apparently, Milbank's. Needless to say the truth about this walking, talking blue stained dress would likely come out. Roveco planned for Guckert inevitable downfall by figuring out a way to make Guckert a martyr and trash his critics, at least for the most stupid and most credulous. I know I just called Guckert a dress, but I can't resist the following metaphor: This is my theory on how they lanced the boil that is Guckert:

Guckert announced that he used a pseudonym.

Guckert taunted the bloggers to discover his identity, saying he was "hiding in plain sight."

Guckert claims that he is "everything" the left wing hates. Even before any amateur sleuths went to work, he established, for his audience anyway, his victimization. When the truth comes out, his audience will be primed to interpret events according to the script.

When the bloggers obliged him by looking into his identity, he and the stupid media could claim that they went after his "personal" life. And they did. At his invitation.

The Bush's co-hort in the press (Leslie and Kurtz) oblige by amplifying the spin: The left unscrupulously tore into the personal life of a reporter because they didn't like his politics. Kurtz even lifts a quote from Kos, undoubtedly taken out of context, that makes it appear that Kos and his Kossacks endorse tearing apart someone's sex life because of that person's hypocritical politics and because sex sells. Glen Reynolds chimes about their mean-spiritedness and lack of scruples. The ethics guru over at Poynter Institute agrees: Bloggers embrace the politics of personal destruction because they didn't like Gluckert's politics.

Actually, if we are to believe Guckert, Hotmilitarystuds.com was part of Guckert's professional life. He set up the domain address for a client.(Insert rude comment here.)

Never mind the NYDN page 46 headline. Zuckerman, the publisher who hearts GWB, will curb his unruly reporter and headline editor soon enough.

24. Why do gay guys work for the right wing? The closet is so uncomfortable
He should have a change of heart and write a book about his experiences in the sordid world of right wing hate politics. The left would embrace him, including his sexuality.

28. I forget where I read it but he prayed to be straight
Geez, I can't find out where I saw it - probably on Media Matters. But he said when he became a Christian is cleaned him of his impure ways.

:grr:

Being Gay is not like an "On/Off" switch. I really feel sorry if this guy has a wife and kids because it'll be like another Jim McGreevey where he'll put on this straight public persona and yet privately mess around behind his family's back.

This is why all this anti-gay fevor just is horrible. Because it's going to force more gays & lesbians into the closet and leading double lives as straight people with familys because of the guilt our government and the christian mafia has been creating.

:grr:
