Don't Want To Be An American Idiot
Okay..even though I'm 52 years old...my rock 'n roll roots have never left me. Maybe it is arrested development.

For those of you not aware, Green Day's song "American Idiot" is the only music I'm hearing out there that directly addresses the mess we're in.

Lines like:

"The subliminal mind-fuck America"
"I'm not part of your red-neck agenda"
"...a nation controlled by the media"

It's an in-your-face" tune that really fires me up.

In the past, protest was reflected in the music of the times. Where are the angry youth with the talent to get the message out?

1. Yeah! My kids (12) brought this CD home for my review.
They were concerned it had fuck in it and thought I would censor it.

They were wrong and got a little more added to thier education ;)

An added bonus, these guys make good music too. Probably the best political music since Rage Against the Machine.

2. Primal Scream
See Primal Scream's album, Exterminator, from 2000 I think. It was from around or before those elections, but their song "Swastika Eyes" has a line that goes:

"The military-industrial ... illusion of democracy."

Also .. suggestive psychology, elimination of policy. Check it out :)

but eminem's actually got a political conscience, at least that's what it seems...

but yea, green day is light-centuries ahead of everyone else. rage was also up there. mmm...rage...and green day...

on edit: what about corporate avenger? and radiohead? they're pretty politically minded too.

4. Love it!
I'm 49, and my 16-year-old turned me on to this. We rock out to it constantly. There's other political stuff out there too. Have you seen the wonderful video for Incubus' "Megalomaniac?"

6. Great album
I'm 41, and not even a huge fan of Green Day. I bought it after reading a very positive review in Entertainment Weekly by, of all people, Stephen King.

Since then, it's been about the only CD I've been playing.. I know there are people out there who are probably thinking "Green Day?" I would just suggest that you do yourself a favor and give it a chance.

7. Green Day's American Idiot is a good CD...
I love the title track, and the 3 track "Holiday" is an sweet anti-Iraq War song....I think "Holiday" is going to be the next track they are making into a video...the video will be sweet if it features coverage of anti-war protesters.
