1. Its the contribution from employees, not the network itself.
Is everything that goes against your preconceived notions automatically "hacked"?

2. That makes sense.
But still it leaves me a little perplexed.

Oh well.

3. How would they monitor the contributions of every employee of each company
?
That makes no sense. It seems that it would be easier to track the company's contributions, right? I dunno

7. There are sites that list top contributors to candidates.
It also lists the employer for each. So it's not too hard to add up contributions of, say, $1,000 or more from a company's employees to see where the big bucks are going. OpenSecrets.org is one such site.

9. Not sure..
I think there's some sort of system whereby donors are able to (or have to) disclose their employer.

13. you are supposed to name an "employer" on your donation form..............
when you donate to a candidate, there is a form one fills out listing the amount. you are also supposed to list your "employer". no doubt there is some kind of cross checking with the IRS too. so I always list my employer as "self employed" because I do have a bitty business from which I claim income of several hundred dollars a year, and that is actually the true income. I lose money on it.

6. Uh, YES?
Have you ever considered that there are other FOX employees contributing to political parties than just Bill O'Reilly and Rupert Murdoch?

10. their news director is a Democrat
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 08:47 PM by imenja
believe it or not. Apparently he is a big Democratic contributer. I forget his name.

Edit: Dan Cooper is the guy's name. He's an executive rather than a journalist. http://dancooper.biz/dan-cooper-resume.htm

12. Don't know whether to believe that..
..considering Bill O'Reilly is an "independent" and Tammy Bruce is a "Democrat".

15. who knows
but if true, it shows how little editorial difference he and other Democrats at news outfits make. Murdoch apparently is very heavy handed in guiding the content of news in his newspapers and TV broadcasts.

8. shows how absurd the "buy blue" movement is
Corporations are multi-national. You can find democrats and republicans in any corporation and they have outlets in red and blue states alike. Unless you are supporting local business or a few particularly socially responsible companies, the whole idea of buying blue is pointless.

11. There's an explanation on their site
"Many people have commented about the fact that News Corp, owner of Fox News, is a blue company whereas they would have expected it to be red. News Corp has many subsidiaries and many of them are in the entertainment industry which is traditionally very blue. This is reflected in the political donations given by the employees of News Corp as a whole. Here are the donation summaries* from the FEC data (as of 12/06/04) for the most significant News Corp companies we have used in our database:"

16. Yes, I worked for a News Corp company
Murdoch actually treated us very well, signed our union contract without an arguement, and was a better owner in every way than when it was a publicly held American company (this company had really irresponsible management when it was publicly held).
