A different take on Gannon/Guckert
I've been following the story, and tossing the different scenerios/theories through my head. This is one that occurred to me, that I haven't seen proposed yet.
I think we can all agree that Gannon was a plant by the WH or repug operatives. Why? He had very little journalistic training, and no journalistic credibility. Talon News had no credibility, and a very small readership. He continued to operate his escort service even after he got a pass to the press corps. The WH had to have known this, and gave him a daily press pass anyway. Why? Most thoeries being floated out there assume he was a media plant for RW propaganda purposes. Suppose he was a gay plant? No journalistic experience required, throw him an exclusive every now and then to establish him. I'm thinking the WH probably had some knowledge (or suspected) that one or more WH MSM press were closeted gays. Gannon/Guckert was sent in to compromise them. They would then do whatever the WH/repugs wanted, lest they be outed and their careers perhaps be destroyed. Maybe this was the reason Gannon/Guckert was given such easy access to the Press Corps... not because he was a RW shill, but because he was gay.

3. If Rove planned a scheme to compromise...
...possible gays in the WH Press Corps, then it wouldn't be to difficult to find an undercover operative, I would think. Especially one facing legal problems for prostitution and tax evasion.

2. Other DUers suggested that last week also.
But the question is, how did someone in the WH come to know Gannon or know of him to use him like that?

4. okay
bobby eberle is the man who got jeff into the white house...and...personally...that's the one thing i believe that bobby has to say...that he didn't know jeff's past...if his past is as a prostitute...im sorry but im a liberal who believes in reasonable doubt for one.

bobby went to at least one press conference and was able to ask a question to bush before talon news and before jeff gannon...

bobby belongs to the lyceum texas association along with george bush, margaret spellings and about a dozen other white house admin officials and underlings

the lyuceum texas association is all about making business connections among each other...you have to be nominated by someone already in it to get in it...

forget jeff gannon...he was picked by bobby...because bobby is a cheap son of a gun who doesn't pay his writers (who all plagiarize from the mainstream media as ive been proving at my blog http://www.whyareweback.blogspot.com )

and...so far...except for government and party press releases i haven't found any evidence that jeff has plagiarized (taking from government statements and not mentioning it is pushing propaganda but not really the same as plagiarism since this administration likes nothing better than for journalists to repeat their lies and horseshit) jeff might be a wackadoo (not talking about his private life which i don't care about and i think has been unfairly over-invaded...but some of the "religious" quotes he's made)...

jeff has a voice...that's why he represented talon news...bobby eberle is a plagiarizer and so is most of his talon newsers..

peace

6. Except everyone at the WH is denying knowing Eberle.
Don't you think that is strange? And his "private life" ,Gannon's, was posted all over the net! It was hardly"private"! I fail to see how it could be "unfairly invaded".
I wonder if they knew about his difficulties and they used his potential problems to control him as well as any encounters that might develop?
Personally, I think Rove just got overconfident and stupid. I think Gannon was a plant and everyone knew it. I don't think they checked his background. He writes a couple of anti gay tirades and he was GOPUSA's boy. Rove controls ALL public appearances of the Shrub. Why would padding the Press Corp be a shock?
I think this is a great story and I hope it lingers to embarrass the Bushes forever. My dream would be it leads to impeachment but that may be a stretch, but ya know, so was the blue dress!

15. strange?
that they're denying knowing eberle?

um that seems about what we'd expect...

no...you're wrong...who you sleep with is your private life...and how or why or what you do is your biz

i personally think prostitution should be legal (though i consider myself a feminist so it's not like im completely okay with the subject...well with either male or female prostitutes and whomever pimps for them)

Now...if I put up an ad on craigslist...say looking for a lover...without the money aspect lol....

and say...instapundit finds it and posts my personal ad on his website for millions of people to see...im sorry that would be an invasion of my personal life

now...i do think it's okay to out someone who has made a career out of saying homophobic stuff or a drug user that believes in harsh sentences for drug offenders...but I think too much has been made out of this...as a daily kosser put it...i find it creepy...there's been so many blatantly homophobic comments left on those blogs (though some may have been left by freepers...at daily kos longtime users have been saying all kinds of offensive jokes on every thread)

but while i think it's okay...i personally wouldn't do it...

i've found out something similiar regarding another character in this saga....(although i didn't dig up enough to positively match it....i have enough to make an allusion ) but im not going to blog about it...and this "journalist" has a long history of writing even worse stuff about gays than jeff gannon (those clues don't give anything away since there are a large number of gopusaers who would fit that bill.

i've also found unsavory personal stuff on prior stories i worked on...but again...i keep it off my blog...oh i might pass something on to another blogger...if i think it's important but i wont do it myself

this story isn't going to do a thing to bush...for one...we don't have a majority in either house....

the man sat down in a chair and read a children's story while our nation was under attack

but this story could end up doing damage to the gop itself...by exposing the scams they use to get money and recruit acolytes

and waking up the press

who...as i will write in an article soon....have been attacked by gopusa and the white house administration together

peace

19. but when you are a web based journalist
and you have a web based escort service, you have to realize that when you stand up at a press conference and call democrats "divorced from reality" that people will wonder who you are.

I have a little part of me that is scared that we are falling for some scheme.

The other half of me is glad that it has a sexual angle. Armstrong Williams and the other journalists who were PAYED by the government, barley raised an eyebrow. This has a chance to make news because of the scandal, and this guy was pretty dumb (you can't have these two careers at once).

It is about propaganda and controlling our news (because real journalists wrote down the answers to the softballs too), not about Gannon, but if Gannon gets the press to open their eyes and get over their fear of George, then I'm okay with the scandal.

21. you're right
sex sells...

now the media is listening....

last night i linked to john at americablog again...

im still not thrilled with the way it was handled...but if it worked to get the media interested....

then thanks to all who've helped make it happen...

silly me thought plagiarizing the press would be enough to attract their attention...but my emails to different places have been either ignored or whatevered (one of the writers that was plagiarized wrote me saying that it was a form of flattery)

peace

20. also
I think marijuana should be legal, but if someone were in the White House press corp and had a web site that sold marijuana, I would say they were so dumb that it was fair game.............plus I'd wonder how on earth they got in no matter who they knew (I would think a background check would be mandatory for anyone who got close to the commander and chief).

Also I'd wonder how they got called on so often and had so many short cuts when their business was hypocritical to the "values" of the White House.

22. now you're bringing up another thing that's bugged me
Are we really concerned about who gets in to the white house briefings...

i mean...there's probably a ton of liberal journalists who might lose access if we pursue that angle...

i don't want future hunter s thompsons to not be able to provide us with incredible reporting just because they've been arrested for drugs or another vice in their past...

It's why gannon (and eberle before him) were picked for questions that is the issue....

5. Sorry about the dupe thread, then.
How many RW gays willing to have sex for money can there be? He was advertising his services! Where did Nixon find the plumbers? Where did Reagan find the arms dealers and gun-runners to do Iran-Contra? Some staffer knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who'll do a job for a price. If you are planning a covert sting, it can't be too hard to find someone to do the front line work for a price. We aren't talking about a police sting, where operations are held to a standard that will hold up in court.

7. everything in politics happens because it is supposed to
This has all been way to easy. The softball questions and the gay porn evidence have basically been handed over. All of A sudden a light bulb went off over some journalists head?.. and they and they said... "hey wait a minute, this guy doesn't seem right", but he has been around the press circle since at least 2003. No digging for that story line.

Who exactly is this gannon/guckert guy. Can we be sure his real name is even Guckert?

Now, all of a sudden, nobody is talking about social security, and now, exists the political fuel for the occasion when a republican might want to sway from party line.... gay prostitution blackmail will scare even Arnold Schwarzenegger!!

My opinion is this is all just part of a scenario already played out in the minds of already powerful men. It's to obvious of a political slip. In many ways Rove, or whoever, is only giving the bloggers something to chew on.

You truly believe this is enough to bring down the powers that be. This story only reiterates everything we already know.... but juicier.

then Cheney becomes Pres.

Or is that still unclear?

Cheney doesn't need shrubnuts to be impeached. He's (Cheney) already running the country.

16. hey
we need to give bloggers some credit...(not taking credit for this..cause i've mostly focused on bobby eberle and his other writers)

it wasn't all that easy to find out about jeff's background....

i mean there's a certain politician (who i like mostly...though he was a jerk about ohio....but im not gonna name...but im sure you can guess) who dabbled with pros himself for a while

but hey...i always consider the possibility that every single thing that 's happened over the last four horrible years is nothing but a nixonian dirty trick

so anythings possible

17. Sorry, but have you seen the guy lately? The photos that were posted are
older pictures, and he had a certain hotness about him - but to use him as "gay bait" now? He looks like he's losing body tone, his face has gotten fat. Sorry, but there are thousands of much better looking guys around that they could have used to "entice and entrap".
