Freep pees in Eiffel Tower elevator and wonders why Americans
are hated in Europe.

To: GVgirl
"I noticed this in Europe 20 years ago. Seems the disease has spread."

I only noticed this in Paris 20 years ago. All the other countries and cities I visited from Dunvegan to the Costa del Sol were just fine. And we used only trains and ferries. We met just regular nice people. Geneve' was questionable because we had dirty-looking beards by then.

We took care of Paris:) Have you been to the Eiffel Tower? We were alone in the #2 elevator and peed in it on the way up to the bar on top. We sent it back down and sat on the opposite side of the bar with a clear view of that elevator every time it came back up:):)

That's what the Air Force Good Conduct Ribbon is for:):):)

4. Those damn French...
...helping us claim independance from England, saving uncountable Americans through the underground in WWII at the cost of their own lives and giving us the biggest symbol of freedom and democracy as a gift. Good thing they "took care of Paris:)."

12. One time on this debate board
republicans were going on about France and whatnot and boycotting and I told them how if they were really boycotting France they better give back the Statue of Liberty. After I said that none of them replied. :D So there's your argument. ;)

36. Might as well give the country back to England
If it wasn't for French intervention in the Revolutionary War, America would have lost to the British. Most Freepers seem to forget that little factoid.

7. Well, what are vacations FOR, after all?
I know whenever I'm in Paris, I just love to pee on the various cultural icons.

It's a way of marking territory -- you know -- letting the socialist French elitists know we 'Murkins are in town.

23. and you say you "didn't see ANY post"
and I in fact saw many condemning the act, specifially posts 2 and 5. The others just parodied the ingnorant attitude.
Apparently not enough indignation to suit your tastes though.

13. check these quotes out from the thread...egads!

"I have never left the USA and see no need to. There is absolutely nothing offered overseas or abroad that holds any allure for me. This is the most beautiful land on the planet and its bounty can fill me for the rest of my days and I shall want for nothing."

"The only time I ever left the USA was when I went up to Niagara Falls. And that was just because the better view of the American falls happens to be in Canada. I walked across the border and back again. She never left my sight."

"I for one have never understood why any American would ever feel the need to leave this beautiful country for a vacation.
If I were rich and could take several vacations every year and visited a different place each TIME I don't believe I would run out of places to visit right here in the USA."

hmmm....yea....ok, let's see, other parts of the world=ancient civilization, america's ancestry, new culture (i.e people, food, music, etc) BUT remember for this equation, the rest of the world< AMERICA! anywhere but the US? whatta waste o' time.

15. That's just pathetic
However, it shows something else. None of these assholes has ever served in the military. See? If they had, they would have gone overseas almost certainly. I was in the USAF for 8 years and got to see ALL KINDS of beautiful places. The world has a lot to offer. I was never the ugly American no matter where I was.

yea, no kidding...i think with my travels overseas, america has become even more beautiful and has more meaning.
i was in europe november of 2003, and my boyfriend and I received no kind of animosity whatsoever. but, that probably has more to do with your state of mind (and the fact that we didn't wear fanny packs, brightly colored hawaiien shirts, and talk in loud annoying voices).

33. Buncha backwards rubes over there
...especially the "...its bounty can fill me for the rest of my days and I shall want for nothing" post. :puke:

I grew up a military brat and lived overseas for the better part of my life up until the summer before I turned 14 (I'm 36 now) and wouldn't trade those experiences for anything. In fact, I wish I'd been older when I lived overseas so I could remember more of it!

20. Think that post will hit the "liberal" media?
I know how much the "liberal" media or cable chucklehead like to take one post by some low-post-count ignoramus here at DU and equate it with the totality of the DU universe, regardless of whether folks disagree with the post or not. Over at FR, some guy admits to doing something like this, no one disagrees, and not a peep!

Almost makes me think the media aren't so "liberal."

35. I went to...
a website filled with Bush supporters, and I was confused...they were saying things like:

Every Frenchman is a coward
Every Frenchman smells bad
Every Frenchman is arrogant

ect, ect.

But I asked them, have you ever been to France? Have you ever met a Frenchman before? And they said no, they don't want to. And I wonder, how can you say there things if you don't know them?

One idiot came up with the fantastic theory that since the French that went to war decades ago were cowards, the French inherited their genes, and are thus, cowards today.
