I believe Bush* will go down in history as being a Liberal Hero |
|
I believe Nader was right. Things are going to have to get a lot worse before they get better and Bush* is the man to do that very thing. He will be responsible for the collapse of the Dollar and America's esteem world wide. There will be a backlash and Liberal values will become the Law of the land. We will decide it is in the interest of the USA to take care of it's citizens first and not let Corporate America rule over their lives. America will be on the point of total collapse before Bush*'s second term is done. Republicans will have proved beyond any doubt that they are anything but financial wizards. People are going to get fed up with having Christianity shoved down their throats and the two decade long "temporary insanity" that has overtaken America will be cured. America has a very bright future and it is all because of this Bush* Cabal. All we have to do is survive him now. This pattern of though is what is keeping me going. Remember "Every Cloud has a Silver Lining"

I was telling my S/O the same thing. Its similar to a junkie or an alcoholic having to hit the absolute rock bottom of screwing up their life before any kind of re-hab will "take".

I hope you're right. I hope it starts happening soon. By 2008.

7. Can America recover from *? I put our chances at 20-80. |
|
The damage he has done is long lasting. That's what they (ie: bush & the neo-cons and the idiots that voted for him) wanted, that's what they got.
Sure, America might recover, but many of us won't be around to see it happen. At some point American optimism and can-do attitudes will be replaced by the stark realization that we have fallen from our perch and that recovery is a multi-decade proposition. I don't know how many citizens will sign on for a major rebuilding (read: sacrifice) in this country of immediate and constant gratification.
The dismaying reality is that events are no longer in our control. China and the Europeans already control our economy by proxy and bushco has effectively eliminated any allies that would have gone out on a limb for us in the past.
We're on our own and the sharks are circling.

I would have to agree. Remember that had Kerry won, he would still have had to deal with a Republican congress and Senate. He wasn't turning back the clock on Iraq. The deficits were not going away, etc. It may be a mess, but the Republicans may as well be holding the bag with both hands.

It was getting a little thick in here.
Bush will be remembered for what he is: criminally foolish, criminally arrogant, criminally hypocritical. A coward, a cad, a liar.
I might also point out that this "the corrupt government will cause things to get to the very worst, and then we can triumph" has been used before.
By Lenin.
And we all know how well that worked out.

No matter how much we may proselytize linear thinking, whether it is religion, politics or economics, reality is still relative. There are two sides of the coin, even though we only see one at a time. How do we reconcile being both individuals and parts of a group. Communism spent seventy years finding out that crushing the individual doesn't make a better society and we are finding that sacrificing society doesn't make for better people. Bush is just speeding up a process that might have taken another twenty years.
In '96, Bob Dole had a campaign slogan, "We want you to keep more of your money in your pocket." When I first heard it, my thought was, "Thank god, It not my money, or it would be worthless." Obviously, the value of money is not in the piece of paper, but in the communal faith placed in the system that issues it. It is not a god, but a tool. It is not an end in itself, but means to a more efficient economy. As an economic circulatory system, it is a form of public commons, just like the highway system. So what we have is a tragedy of the commons, as everyone grabs as much as they can. One of the consequences is that the government issues far more then is necessary and then borrows back as much of it as it can in order to maintain its value.
When the structure and foundation of society is starved in order to put more gold faucets in the penthouse until it reaches the point of collapse, this is the historic cause of revolution. The irony is that it is the rich that are working the hardest to break a system they benefit from the most.

As it stands, I'm so disenfranchised with politicians that my gearshift is immutably stuck in the "apathy" setting. I just don't care one way or another anymore.

21. Saying that Bush will go down as a liberal hero |
|
Is like saying that Hitler is a Jewish hero because the Holocaust led to the formation of Israel. I don't buy that logic. That's like saying we had to destroy the village in order to save the village.
On the other hand, I do agree with you that Bush's failures may lead to a progressive majority being elected in this country. I do believe in being optimistic.

23. Those who do not learn from history... |

...are doomed to repeat it.
Your post is dangerously close to the theory which was prevalent in Germany circa 1934. The rise of the Third Reich was supposed to cause a backlash in the liberal German democracy. It did. Eventually. Seems like a foolsih strategy/hope to me to allow America to go down the path of Bushism and repeal of the New Deal in order to get "better."
Bush will never be a "liberal hero" or anything other than what he is. Don't take false comfort.
