you probably get it better than i. going back to the feel of vietnem
the more this goes to quagmire, the more the troops cannot win. the sadness for the loved ones over there, giving their all. the families here, giving their all. and success not happening. the more they have to bubble themselves, insulate from the reality cause of acceptance of loss. the more they need the unconditional support with no thought, or truth
you get where i am coming. didnt this happen during vietnam. the more the left saw it was a loss, loss of life for both sides, wasnt going to work, and ultimately being on the soldier side to extract him from the war, the more they were yelled at by other side not supporting troops
and reality it is the pain and fear from those participating
this is bigger, but just untieing knots here where vetwife took us. her love for her men, and yet seeing the pain and fear in them. a protective mama thing
i might be stepping over line here. but i truly like to understand what is happening. to see what we are creating. to find solutions

What's with the sexy picture and all? If I were trying to raise awareness of vets issues I wouldn't be putting up a glamour shot of myself. I'd been pounding the streets in DC. What an interesting coincidence.

15. Yes, it is a lot like a battered kid who will likely defend his/her |
|
abuser. Most people just have to believe the people who are supposed to take care of things are decent and doing things right. It is too scary for some to accept that we all have to be the grown ups and not assume that we will always have 'good father' taking care of us.

I believe those with loved ones would despise those who may point out reality's ugliness and how it effects them directly and indirectly. There is plenty of people here willing to give comfort.
All people have to do is ask, and I'm sure they shall receive.

27. Oh yeah, I've seen the freeper types go absolutely nuts |
|
when someone in the military, or freshly home, states even the slightest criticism of the war on Iraq. Even if they say something because of the grief of the loss of friends, they get absolutely trashed for not putting the chimp on a throne with every sentence.
"Support the Troops" is nothing more than an answer to the new and not-so-improved, "Your papers, please."

ever rushed up to my Dad and thanked him. I think it would have made him uncomfortable.
I'd settle for the Republican Party to quit bitching about how much it costs "them" to do what is right and take care of the Vets.

I don't know a lot of vets (or at least the ones that are public about it) so I don't know if this is common, but he is very private about his time in the military.

another conservative website I won't name but I thought most people knew she was a moderator over there. That's why I kind of kept my distance from her here. I wasn't exactly sure which side she stood on and was wary of her motives. Plus I read some of her posts over there, bashing DU and DUers and I wondered why the hell she even bothered to post here if she hated it so much. I also wondered how many other DUers had seen that stuff over there.

Wow she could have fooled me. I really don't get it, how could she go into the arms of those that really don't support the troops, those that are out to put them in harms way? How many of those in charge actually served our country. They are a bunch of chickenhawks who send others to fight their wars.
The original thread wasn't really that bad. Sure some people criticized stuff that was silly like the decor but the whole difference between the cons and the dems is that we actually allow differing opinions and discussion. They are programmed, talk the talk or else and I certainly wouldn't want to be a part of that. If she does then goodbye.

A donating, long-time DUer makes a sweeping gereralization about DU being anti-vet (without posting examples, I might add) in a post LOADED with flamebait, and we now see she's been frequenting conservative websites (and even MODERATING them, ferchristsake).
And she STILL has friends and defenders here (many defenders on her flamebait thread)?
In her thread, she claimed Skinner, Eric Blumrich and "Will" (I assume she means Will Pitt) can all vouch for her sincerity, although I don't recall if Skinner & Will defender her in that thread.
Adding this all up, it would appear, IMHO, we have a master disruptor in our midst (or, at least, we used to)...
On edit: reread her thread, and Skinner & Will didn't post in it at all. So much for that "vouch"...

if someone sets off your radar just a bit, just go to google and type in their username or, if you feel like needing a shower, go to one of "those" websites and kinda look around.
If you find nothing, all the better, but if you do find something, then you'll know to kind of keep your distance.
Listen to your gut.

I think that she has been seduced by the other side because she is absolutely adamant that everyone support the troops unconditionally. She has gone from being a force on the left to actually help them (which I do think she tried to do with all her heart) to a puppet of the right, brainwashed like many of the troops she supports.
I feel bad for her. And I feel betrayed for having supported her.

Well, this is an interesting development. All I can say is that if a person claims that they support the troops, then they better be calling for Bush's scalp for plunging this country into an unnecessary war against a country that had nothing to do with 9/11.
Like our Marine speaker at the Indianapolis peace rally said: people put Support Our Troops ribbons on their cars, but that is only to feel better about themselves and it does nothing for the troops.
If you support the troops, you must oppose this war and call for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq.
