I think Clark is our best chance. I think there are a lot of highly qualified people out there for VP (Edwards, Warner, Clinton, Obama, Boxer, etc.)

29. I have a sincere question about Clark |
|
I like the man (other than his spooky eyes), so don't get me wrong, but other than his military experience, what does he have to offer? I mean, I could definitely see him doing a better job on Iraq, but then what?

What Clark offers is the ability to bring the red and blue states together once again. And he can do this without giving an inch on the issues.
Why? How? Because Clark is a leader. And that's what leaders do. They bring people together in order to move forward.
Oh, and by the way, Clark is a Rhodes Scholar with a masters degree in economics. Hmm.. a Rhodes Scolar from Little Rock.. ring any bells?

35. That's good ...but how about a winning ticket....let's be realistic. |
|
How about: If Repubs put up Condi...we'll need someone black or female Clark/Boxer Clark/Clinton Clark/Obama If they put up McCain...We'll really need someone who's strong on defense and with congressional and/or administrative experience. Clark/Richardson Clark/Holbrook Clark/Biden Clark/Spitzer Clark/Rubin
I personally think Clark/Richardson is the best and would bring in the Hispanic vote as well as some Southwest states. I think that is THE winning ticket!

51. I read something somewhere |
|
where someone was making the case for Clark/Obama. They said they didn't think Obama was the most qualified, but that he would offer the best chance for winning. They explained that Clark would be great for now (citing the FP mess we are in) and people would also be voting for the potential first black President (by being VP his chances are greatly improved).

|
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 05:00 PM by Stevepol
These polls or listings of potential Dem candidates are just trivial and useless exercises in futility as long as the voting machines are determining the winner of elections at all levels of government. Kerry won the last election. Does somebody think that some other candidate will somehow beat the machine?
Jesus Christ couldn't win as a Dem in Amurka as long as the voting machines can count the votes basically w/o audits of any kind to check for fraud.
I would suggest that our imagination and energy would be better spent in figuring out how to get audits for every election and perhaps even get rid of the DREs.
Why are so few concerned about this issue now? As soon as the next election rolls around, people will be very concerned about it, but now is the time to do something: call the elections officials and in a civil way find out what kind of machine is used in your area. Are they aware that lawsuits are pending in many states now because the DRE machines do not have voter-verified paper ballots and audits?

32. Actually, you couldn't be more wrong.. |
|
As long as we have no viable candidates, no one is going to listen to the complaints about voter fraud. We must become a popular party again...a non-loser party before anyone is going to take our voter reforms seriously. In order to do that, we need leadership, real leadership. And we need followers, devoted followers, of that leadership. And none of that is going to happen without great candidates.

36. I agree to an extent: |
|
First, there has always been vote suppression in America. That "always" does not make it right, it just lets us understand the playing field. Therefore, the win must be of a greater margin than can be messed with by long lines and broken machines. Also, one role for the grassroots is to keep up the pressure.
Second, we must have a campaign that understands the machine problem and is willing to "call" them on it. The additional problem with the machines is that Democratic Sec. of State who are responsible for election procedures are also beholding to the machine companies that pass out perks and kick-backs. Again, we need a campaign that is willing to resource an exposing of the problem. Dean is aware and hopefully willing to take this on. Good. I do know that Clark is very much aware of what is going on, has spoken about it, and understands the GEMs component.
We are not there yet, but at least we are making some progress.

I don't think so.
But Clark and somebody with strength and experience and who isn't already marginalized would be my choice.
Before I get jumped for not wanting Kucinich, think back on his convention speech (Courage! Courage!). I was embarrassed for him.
He obviously didn't think enough of the time on television to prepare a real speech.
Just embarrassing.

And I've heard him give many. I don't know what he was thinking. He often doesn't prepare much for speeches because he normally doesn't need to. He's a great ad-lib speaker. He should have tried a little harder for that one.

53. He went along with the party censorship, IMO |
|
That made for a crappy speech. But then, he actually holds office, and therefore has ongoing connections with people that he wanted to maintain. Much easier for someone like Sharpton, who has never held any public office, to go offscript and let it rip.
