What is it with the Neocons and Hollywood anyway?
I was watching Joe Scumbrough at work last night...I know...I know...but hey the pundit shows are the only thing on between 2-4 in the morning when I should be doing my job. Anyway, the whole show seemed to be a favorite rant about "Hollywood liberals". How they are too secular because they feel The Passion of the Christ, which the Neocons seemed to have claimed as their own, has been snubbed by those evil atheist limousine liberals...wa...wa...boo hoo.

Or how upset they are that Million Dollar baby will likely win because it addresses...gasp...ethanasia. Terri Shivio defenders beware the horrors!

It was almost amusing as the Right's outrage at Chris Rock hosting the Oscars because he isn't "politically correct" (yeah, I know, the Right thinks he should be PC...figure that one out).

So what is it with this obsession with them and Hollywood? They keep insisting mainstream America wants upbeat, non-violent, family movies like Passion *insert sarcasm here* and not dark, edgy and dealing with real life issues. Yet these movies are what sells, thus IMO that is what mainstream America really wants.

4. If these types were around, many good movies wouldn't be made
Like "To Kill a Mockingbird", "Look Who's Coming to Dinner", "Real People", "The Front".
All these movies covered controversial subjects and were villified by small-minded people. Hollywood has always had its share of people trying to break the rules and we've gotten a better class of movies for it.

7. "To Kill a Mockingbird" is one of my favorite's
I love that movie and book. That was one of the very very few books I enjoyed reading when I had to do summer reading for schoo. They usually had the most boring books but that one I enjoyed very much. :) That movie truly is a classic.

5. They don't have control over film yet
so it's driving them nuts.

Americans would probably prefer more family films. PG films tend to bring in more than R films, from what I recall reading. I don't think most people would take their kids to see the "Passion," though, from what I've heard people saying who saw it. They were sorry they went, except for one guy on an e-mail list I'm on who said he considered it good porn. It sounds disgusting to me.

6. The reason?
Neo-cons are envious and jealous of other people having sex.

12. Sex the Fundie way...
I think they do enjoy it...as long as it's missionary, with the lights out and socks on...any other way would be perverse.

10. I would never allow my 11 year old to see passion! I did take my fifteen
year old though. I don't consider that a "family" movie! What's wrong with Shrek and Harry Potter and Lemony Snicket, and... Cripes, I can name thousands of family movies what is WRONG with them? for that matter what was wrong with F911? The statements were REALLY made. No one put any words into the mouths of those politicians, and the commentary barely even registered with me most of the time. I have taught my children that opinion isn't necessarily fact and if they want to know the truth they need to find it for themselves, so, I guess, in that way F911 is a family movie, all violent pictures were removed from the screen and the screen was made black so as to allow the listener to HEAR the truth without having to be shown the carnage.

I think they are the TRUE hero worshiping SOB's. They all watch those reality shows like "American Idol" and crap don't they? I don't know many liberals that watch it, anyway. In fact the only reality shows I watch are "Survivor" and C=Span and I realize both of those "shows" aren't REALLY REALITY either they are just mindless entertainment and propaganda, occasionally peppered with reality.

Why the hell can't we all just leave each other the hell alone! I have a right to watch whatever form of entertainment I want as long as it doesn't promote hurting anyone. As a matter of fact, if they just applied that one rule to their churches MOST of the crazy preachers out there would not be allowed to attend them and they certainly wouldn't be allowed to preach what they do now!

"Family values" is something for families to to figure out NOT churches that are no better than cults!

13. Simple Class Warfare
Its easy to get persons to hate others who have so much more. In Hollywood's case, even easier because it looks so easy, and because we live in a celebrity worship society.
