Research question on Iraq... |
|
I really hope someone here can help me! I remember reading a few months back that there was evidence the the U.S. had used napalm in Iraq in violation of a treaty banning it. As I remember, it was used in Ramadi (or maybe not). I was having a conversation with my mom and when I brought that up, she refused to believe it without some evidence. Am I wrong? If I'm right, I was hoping that someone here on DU would be able provide me with some links to articles supporting it.
Please and thank you very, very much:loveya:

8. Yeah, that one sort of stuck in my mind. I knew exactly what the OP |
|
was talking about. The reporter from Australia reported it first, and the Pentagon explained he was mistaken (to those who dared listen to any but CNN and Faux). Then the CNN reporter used the 'n' word which gave the story some legs, but then the usual "military experts" hit the airwaves effectively shutting it down. Five months later, the Pentagon quietly admitted that the Australian reporter was right all along...but nobody seemed to care anymore except here in the new media. They had new distractions to sell.

Al-Jazeera had a lot of witnesses desribe it. The description matches napalm (and/or white phospherous) behaviour perfectly.

http://edition.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/03/21/otsc.irq.savidge/Honestly, I'm having some problems opening this link (lousy dial-up), but do a Google search under Iraq napalm and lots of stuff comes up.

4. I have no idea - but wasn't the purpose of napalm to get rid of green |
|
cover? Those Mesopotamians have been out of green cover about 2000 years ago. Oh and the swamps that made it got drained by Saddam Hussein more than a decade ago (though I understand they are growing back again).
So I don't know about the napalm - what would the use be? If you need information on chemical weapons my best guess would be to look up Gwenne Dyer for info on the Iraq War. He is a military columnists in 75 papers the world over. Not an American at all. He may know. He has lots of surprising info.

5. No...that was Agent Orange... |
|
napalm was meant to burn everything...including people
Agent Orange cleared out the green cover in the Vietnam jungles.
That caused a lot of confusion when I was talking about the topic with my mom last night. I actually said Agent Orange first until she pointed out that there really wasn't a lot of foliage in Iraqi cities.
Thanks

10. Slightly "different" Agent being used |
|
I have the article in my pile and will find it if you want exact details. Technically the agent being used is not "napalm', as the exact composition of the explosive used in Iraq is different. So the Pentagon says it is not napalm. It is essentially the same weapon/substance. It is now 20% something, 30% something, 50% something explosive instead of 30%-30%-40%. It is 100% criminal.
