Your Opinion of Ann Coulter.....
I've been thinking about something today, regarding Ann Coulter.

We all know she makes the most absurd, ignorant, and racist comments of just about anyone out there.

But then I began to wonder: Does she actually hold the beliefs she espouses, or does she purposefully make the most outragious comments, just to get attention?

So DUers, what say you? Do you think Ann Coulter actually believes what she espouses, or is she purposefully trying to make the most outrageous comments, just to get attention?

3. She believes it, and knows she's wrong all at the same time.
She couldn't win a political debate against me, and I'm a scientist. She's a racist, who uses hate speech to rile us. It's unbelievable that mainstream Republican voices embrace this woman. She's dangerous for that side of the aisle, because she's fodder for us.

served in VietNam, either due to birth/dual citizenship or due to personal belief and they came down and joined up. (Although some estimates say that Canadians who joined exceeded the 30,000 draft dodgers). But, because many lied on their paperwork, it'll remain unknown.

So, one can read about Canadian VietNam Vets and assume that Canada supplied troops when they didn't; however, they did supply other things. Canada wasn't quite neutral; although as the war dragged on, they did pass a law "legalizing" draft dodgers coming to Canada.

42. Rephrased - Canada as a Nation did not back US in Vietnam
Which was what missy Coulter was saying. She did not bring up your very insightful and carefully researched informtation.

She also led with "We LET Canada live on this continent with US."

And she was just like, "Yeah, they backed us in Vietnam." "Yeah" "Oh, well I thought they did."

Some fundie bed time story her papa raised her on, maybe based on what you mentioned, but so ingrained as a response she has no idea about what she was talking about.

58. Wellllllllllll . . .I'm hardly gonna go to much effort to defend Annhole
and I think she is like a lot of other people, we collect information over a lifetime -- it's a mix of lies, half-lies, half-truths, and truths intermixed with forgots -- by the time a corrosive patina of opinion is added to it, we just "KNOW" stuff.

And, truthfully, I had time and leisure on my side to verify facts as I wasn't on stage. Why I even bothered to look? I dunno -- just something fishy about it. Mayhap, it was some lingering memory from an earlier time. But, enough to cause me to look rather than just laugh off Annhole as I normally do.

whether or not she actually believes the dreck she spews, other people do. She may indeed be a totally cynical nihilist who doesn't care what she says because she intends only to stir the pot. 21. Ann is playing the role of "bad cop" so that the red state people can
feel they are not as close to Utopia (KAOS) as they really are. Just like Freepers blame Democrats for having all the negative qualities the Freepers don't want to take ownership of within themselves (modeling after Bush their president), Ann provides that scapegoat to the likes of Bill O'Reilly. He can argue with her and thus convince himself that he is reasonable & in the middle. His viewers get the same thing.

When she says: McCarthy was great - it is to paint a picture of a 'nutty' other in Repuke circles. This implies that the Utopia Neocon Republicans are not a delusional bunch of assholes. If she calls Helen Thomas an A-rab, it means that the Utopian neocon Republican Rovbots can say to themselves ... "that is going too far - I am a good person" and then turn around and try & gut SS.

I do not doubt that everything she writes is vetted and reviewed by someone who either instinctively or intellectually knows what role she has to continue to play (may be Ayn herself - could be some other propaganda worker). Look for some reporter to be called a "Jew" the next time 'White House illegal Propaganda against American people' becomes a big issue.

Well.... if it was funny, I'd be laughing, believe me. The problem with Repubs is they don't HAVE a sense of humor. They wouldn't know irony if it bit them in the ass.

Personally, I think she's trying to have it both ways. It's all in fun when she really steps over the line, but most of the time, when she gets away with it, she's as serious as a heart attack.

Nobody who wasn't crazy could spew out that much hatred. Rush and O'Reilly spew out a lot of CRAP, but not that much HATRED. Her level of hatred reminds me a lot of Fred Phelps.

The only reason she's on TV instead of in a locked ward somewhere is because she's a skinny blonde. She's not even pretty, just skinny and blonde.

Also, as a historical note, her dad was a big union-busting lawyer, and that's where she got her start. Barbara Kingsolver wrote a book about a big mine strike they were involved with, called "Holding the Line."

EDITOR'S NOTE: Ann Coulter, who recently imploded in print, is nearly a complete product of the conservative philanthropies, having worked for or received funds from no fewer than six of their funded institutions. She was recently fired from her job as columnist for the National Review Online after she advised that the US conquer Muslim countries and convert them to Christianity.

In college she benefited from funds from the Collegiate Network - funded by Richard Mellon Scaife. She trained at the National Journalism Center, which itself is connected to the Young America's Foundation, and run by the conservative philanthropy funded columnist M. Stanton Evans. She founded a chapter of the Federalist Society at the University of Michigan Law School, and later worked for former Michigan SenatorSpencer Abraham, himself deeply involved with the Federalist Society.

Later Coulter worked at the Scaife-funded Center for Individual Rights. Now she's just been picked up by David Horowitz's Center for the Study of Popular Culture, one of the mostprominent recipients of conservative philanthropy money.

57. Ann Coulter is a genius.

She knows that the more stupid shit she says, the more attention she will get, therefore she will sell more books. Hell, this topic right here is helping her sell books.

59. True, but we wouldn't discuss her if she was treated equally
If she was fat & ugly - she be considered just another "wack-job" and we should wonder about this...

64. So which one of her books are YOU going to buy?
Like the cop who argued in a women's issues class that women still shouldn't wear mini-skirts because it made it 40% more likely that they would be raped or something like that.

The teacher asked him, "And how many more women have you been raping since mini-skirts came out?"

I suppose you're right though. Jesse Ventura had an action figure and I thought that was the most idiotic thing I'd ever heard of, a man running for Guv with an action figure. Then first Jesse, now Arnold.

65. The first time I ever saw her
I honestly thought it was a SNL type satirical skit....

Thought the same thing of Rush first time I heard him (courtesy of a co-worker).

When I found out they were for real, I realized I had walked through the looking glass.

67. As I posted a long time ago, I worked at the place where
the tapes for Pol Inc would be brought to for air. The guy who brought the tapes was a young black Assoc. Prod. and we would always have a conversation about the show. I asked him why Bill had Ann Coulter on so much and he said "because he likes her". He said "Hell, even I like her, she's a very nice fun person". So I said then what she says and does is an act and he said yes. If you think about it, she has no other talent, just like Rush Limbaugh, so she gets on TV shows for publicity to sell her books. It's an act for her and for Rush and the morans eat it up - so, who are the idiots in this scenario?

69. Locking
As bad as Coulter is, unfortunately this topic has become an invitation for insensitive comments and flaming.
