This guy is a bit of a giant blowhard, makes bad quips and puns that aren't funny. The other various people in the audience/office offer up patient laughs from time to time. But the guy is just an old crust that spouts various repuke rumblings and ramblings dogma. So for weeks, this guy kept prodding me and prodding me about my, still on my car, Kerry bumper sticker. Saying various witty retort about Dewey etc. Whatever I thought, because I refrain from talking politics at the office, just a personal thing. I don't think the two should mix. Well anyway, for some reason he feels compelled this morning to come over to my cube (god I hate cubes) to raze me about some crap that was reporting in the local right wing rag about some "liberals" that were stealing some money. So he starts off by saying, "you're a liberal right?" Right off the bat I feel entrapment coming on, so I retort by saying, "no, I'm a Democrat". He totally ignores this. He then goes on to say, something to the effect that, the liberals stealing 9 thousand some odd dollars". He then laughs, the begins to rail on about the democrats blah blah blah. I hit the wall. It was then then I dressed him down. Telling him, that he gets mad over the fact that some "liberals" STOLE 9 grand but it's perfectly okay for the republicans to change the rules so the if delay is brought up on felony charges he can still serve. And that is was okay for delay to use gov't funds to find the Texas Democrats that fled the during the redistricting. He blathers something about, "that's not what I'm talking about". Then I said, "if you come over here with various accusations regarding the Democrats, aka liberals to him, then you better be prepared for a come back because I'm not going to back down. He mumbles something about, "just forget it, like your loser bumper sticker". I reply, "He may have lost, but I still protest the bush and his admin and that's what it stands for". A few minutes later he walks by grumbling still. I stopped him and said, "look, I don't like talking politics at the office, I never have." He was about to say something, I was staring him down. He shut up and walked away.
I had to get this off my chest, but more so, this example should be what we need to do as Democrats, don't back down, stand up for what we believe in, don't let them run over us anymore.
When I brought up the whole tom delay thing, he hadn't a leg to stand on.
Like Winston Churchill once said, "we shall fight on beaches, landing grounds, in fields, in streets and on the hills."
We will fight back, not with guns but with facts and guts. I just refuse to back down.
