"Stop loss" on Ari will tell the tale
I was thinking that I read yesterday somewhere that Ari "the bald liar" Fleischer is leaving the employ of his Imperial Majesty on Monday. Now, no one but no one can spin, spin, spin the way our bald baby can. Would you send the #2 guy out in the midst of the biggest press crisis of YOUR reign? No, not if you are smart.

I'm thinking that if Ari delays his departure, then they do really think they are in a jam over there at the WH. I also think that the Sunday morning shows will determine what sort of legs this thing has.

Think the WH this weekend is talking to Ari about staying on a bit---sort of similar to the stop-loss on military discharges.

1. Not the Sunday morning shows,
The Sunday morning shows won't be what determines if this thing has legs or not.

We're in the post-broadcast era, whether the networks (or the RIAA) like it or not.

The INTERNET will determine if this thing has legs or not - and it already does.

4. I mean with the majority of
white middle class voters who the networks and the politicians most care about. Alot of things have been circling on-line for months but haven't gotten the populace "excited" and certainly hasn't gotten the press off their collective asses. What do post after post here look for? How's it showing up on the ol' TV.

What I see on DU is constant talk of whether the cable and network (and print) press is keeping this going, or, asking hard questions for a change. What I am curious about is what happens in the media after the WH trots out the big guns with the sound bites and soothing words on Sunday morning. Will the media then retreat? The WH cares more about their "soccer mom" and "office park dad" vote than any other group. They HAVE the bases they want, its this vast middle class with its undecided voter they want and the same pool of consumers that the media wants.

As for Ari, I agree they could not keep him around long, but...if I hear he is still in the building, I'll have my suspicions about their anxiety level.

8. Conservative columnist Kathleen Parker
agrees with you. She has a column today about blogs and how they are doing what journalists used to do. She credits them with getting rid of Howell Raines and ousting Trent Lott as majority leader.

5. Ari's replacement is a better spin meister than Ari
I just heard the White House has hired former Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf.

Sahaf: I 'pray to God that I can return to Baghdad one day'
Saturday, July 12, 2003 Posted: 0915 GMT ( 5:15 PM HKT)

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (Reuters) -- Iraq's former Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf, nicknamed "Comical Ali" during the U.S.-led war on Iraq, has made a sudden appearance in Abu Dhabi.

"When I leave I always have in my mind that I might not come down this road again, but I hope and pray to God that I can return to Baghdad one day," he said on Abu Dhabi Television Friday.

Sahaf, 63, became an unlikely media star during the war, winning his stripes as a hero to many in the Arab world while Western audiences gasped and then chuckled at his bravado.

He earned his unflattering nickname for proclaiming the defeat of U.S.-led forces even as American troops advanced into Baghdad, and for his habit of handling loaded weapons during news conferences.

6. Question
Do the HAVE to choose a new guy to replace Ari? Is it the law?

How perfect would that be? "There will be no more press conferences because we can't find a suitable replacement press secretary".

7. He's already been chosen...

... Scott McClellan (if I'm spelling it right)
