How to Fight the Right

I often say, "We need to fight the Right". People then reply and tell me that we can't. Well, here is a list.

Build Think Tanks, Forums, Groups, etc.

Create a Liberal Media

Establish relationships with mainstream religious and interfaith groups

Bring a Liberal voice to the Internet

Voter Education about the true policy implications of the Right

Reject Sweet Talk. Let's put the focus back on Real Issues, and not just slogans on moral values

Use a Human Rights Analysis

Build Broad Based Coalitions

1. We're getting there in some respects.

Air America Radio is spreading and gaining in ratings even in red states like Texas.

The Internet is pretty evenly split with Liberal & Conservative Blogs. DU is an excellent example.

Governor Dean has pledged to take the Democratic Message to the red states instead of only running in the "swing" states.

We do need more think tanks to hone our message.

What the Repubs do well is sloganeer. Reducing complex issues to three word sound bites. We need to become better at that.

They are also very good a pejorative language. Death Tax. Partial Birth Abortion. Ownership society.

These last two items are the result of superior think tanks.
