Who among us thought the Gannon story was going somewhere?
Did you also think the press recount of Gore's FL vote was going somewhere in 2001? Did you think Fahrenheit 9-11 was gonna wake everyone up? Did you think the Plame story was gonna blow the lid off everything? Did you think the AWOL story would finally sink Shrub? How 'bout when no WMD turned up?

Like, hey, Charlie Brown, how many more times are you gonna run at the football, believing Lucy's assurances that THIS TIME she won't snatch it away?

2. The Gannon story died
because there was no "there, there". IOW nobody could find the underlying scandal......it may very well be there but so far nobody has found it.....

the others????....results of a complicit media I think...

4. The Gannon fizzle is also the result of a complicit media.
That's what we have in this country. A complicit media. Including NPR, BTW.

6. A gay male prostitute receiving preferential treatment
From the White House Press Office, without any sort of background check, all so he could lob pumpkin sized questions for McClellan to knock out of the park, all the while parroting RW talking points and diguising them as legit journalism. Yeah, there's there there friend, but sad to say, our MSM isn't going to go after this misadministration over these or any other fuck ups. Now I guarantee you that if this had occurred under Clinton's administration, the whole Gannon/Guckert deal would be splashed all over every single network, lead on the nightly news, and be above the fold on the front page of every newspaper in the land, for at least a month. But this is the Bush administration, where the press simply repeats verbatim whatever the White House releases, or spin that Bushco puts out.

22. "Yeah, there's there there friend, ..."
I have never seen the same word three times together.:-) But I agree with you regarding the media. And I read a thread earlier that agencies are trying to restrict the bloggers out there within the next year or two.

7. There most certainly is a "there, there".
The problem is that standards for practically everything--especially truth and journalism-- have been so lowered under this administration that a story about a male prostitute posing as a journalist doesn't seem to be a big deal to the many people who are operating with such diminished standards.

20. I think I may have mistated the point
It is most certainly true that Gannon was/is a wannabe male prostitute who gained access to the white house and performed like a Republican stooge is supposed to....in that sense, there's plenty of "there, there".

The problem is that the story has apparently ended with that.....the scandal hasn't gone any further even though it is suspected that there is much more "there, there". As it is right now, there isn't anything left to capture the public's imagination or to seel papers or drive ratings up. Until and if that's found it won't go anywhere else.

That the point I was trying to make.

3. it's gone much further than I thought it would
this probably isn't going to touch Bush (but might as well keep digging, who knows what's there...).

But I'm loving that this story is sticking around, it's shining some light on the republican noise machine, and it's causing that machine some problems. They probably are annoyed to have to shut down Talon for example.

8. Some of the other stories annoyed them too.
TANG, for example. But they squelched it pretty well in the end, and took Rather out at the same time. I really wonder if he knows what happened to him, that he got Roved.

5. The corporate media gets bored with stories very quickly
The Right will make the same complaints about the media. If course, the media won't get bored with a story that involves Bill Clinton's sex life.

Or Gore's "earth tones," or inventing the internet, or Kerry's Vietnam "cowardace" and "lies," even though these were all trumped-up bullshit.

15. Don't underestimate F 9/11
no, it didn't win us the election (was it supposed to?) but I have not met a person yet who has watched it and was unchanged by it. It's a POWERFUL film, no matter what side you're on.

When I first saw it, the night it came out, I was sitting next to a guy who kept making scoffing noises at everything MM said in the voice over and acting pissed everytime the audience laughed or clapped.

But by the end, he had stopped. I could see his girlfriend or wife brought him and she was obviously not in favor of bush. She would occasionally elbow him and whisper "SEE?" to him. He just nodded.

By the end, he looked kind of....broken. He actually sagged a bit. I heard her say "I TOLD YOU!!" and he said "yeah" and they left.

I have no idea how it affected him in the end, but I can tell you it wasn't what he was expecting. Before it started he was kinda grinning, looking smug. He looked VERY different as they walked out.

16. I'm not giving up on Gannon story. There are folks
digging on this. The research isn't over. And, this one must be huge because of the incredible cover up.

I think it's just "simmering below the surface" while futher info is gathered. Kossacks are working on it in a "back room." I think someone powerful has been helping with this behind the scenes.

Of course, I could be wrong given the track record for anything sticking to Bush. But, this one just seems a little different. Plus, the Blogs are now much more savy than they were with the rest of the coverups and Chimp's polls aren't what they were after 9/11. All the other "should be" scandals you listed have hopefully had the effect of "softening" him up for the bad news coming down the pike. And, the MSM is getting bad press with the "Blogs" on their heels nipping away.

Did you see the ratings for MSNBC, CNN? Really bad, and not all of the folks who tuned out went over to Faux. The numbers seemed to say that folks stopped watching, just like many DU'ers have. Bill Gates is pulling out of MSNBC and George Soros is starting to take a position in CNN's stock.

I'm more hopeful but it's going to take awhile longer than most of us thought. Maybe another year or longer.

And I haven't been on DU much the last week, so I've been taking my cues from the enemy.

And now they are pulling out the big gun, OBL. So either there is more dirt assoc. with Gannon ready to come out, or some thing even worse. Time will tell.

Edited on Thu Mar-03-05 05:34 PM by KoKo01
I did sound preachy, but I spend alot of time thinking about this. I want that Bush Crime Syndicate behind bars. I want their whole legacy so trashed that to whisper the name Bush meets with shreaks(sp?) and cat calls for the rest of the 21 Century. Caligula II!

I've spent over four years on this. Given my time and money gotten involved locally and I'm so damned tired. I know we have hundreds of DU'ers on the edge of giving up...I've been there myself.

But, I do sound like Lucy..:D

19. The optimist in me said, "YES!" to all of the above.
FL press recount, Fahrenheit, Plame, TANG AWOL, Gannon; got my hopes up for all of them. But deep inside the pessimist was always saying, "You Dumbass!" and later saying, "I told you so!"

Even though I know better, I try to remain optimistic, but its getting harder and harder.

30. Too bad we live in a country full of people with no taste & no sense.
Plenty of big rats running the show; plenty of oblivious, ignorant, hungry people eager to consume whatever the government and the MSM dish out.

Great quote by the way!

32. I wasn't particularly counseling despair here.
I'm just trying to point out that "THEY" are damn good at pushing their lies and squelching uncomfortable truths, and by now we should be aware of it. We apparently need to find some other way to infiltrate public awareness with the truth. Maybe it's a matter of feeding the Blogosphere, maybe it's low-power FM, maybe it's something else. But when you rely on the Corporate Media, you're gonna be disappointed. I mean, a number of Dem senators are calling for investigations & the press doesn't even find that action newsworthy.
