Hypothetical: If we get out of Iraq in the next few years, will history |
|
consider Bush to be a success? If not, what will bring him down?
I'm talking 50 years out here.

2. In 50 years, humanity will be in extremis |
|
because of the path taken.
The environment is anticipated to be verging on the catastrophic, and oil and natural gas will, essentially, be gone. And with no adequate and affordable replacement.
And that's supposing the resource wars keep the nuclear genie in the bottle. Which I strongly doubt.
Bush will be regarded as the Undertaker of Civilization.

3. He has the title of "Worst President Ever" sown up. |

I don't understand how people think that Iraq is a success story. The media is trying to help Bush declare victory so he can start another war. Iraq today is as much a disaster as it was six months ago. What's going on today in Lebanon is dangerous and destabilizing. Where things are 3 years from now will be anybodies guess but if anything good comes out of this it will be despite George W Bush not because of him.

4. History will see Bush as it has seen all invading occupiers....no diff. |
|
The situation in Iraq is far from "freedom and democracy." It's up to the people to rise up against the occupiers and have a real free nation. I fear that many are fatigued and will just give in to the ruling parties supported by the occupiers (US). It will make it seem like a success but it will be a success in the same way that Saddam in power was a success.

5. No matter the evidence, his faithful followers will believe he is |

responsible for bringing democracy to the middle-east, whether it really exists there or not. They will give him credit, just as people give Reagan credit for the downfall of the soviet union -- not Lech Walesa.
Only a genuine peoples' movement will bring democracy to the middle east. The last major peoples' movement in the region put Ayatollah Khomeini in power.
I think the middle-east will be hostile to the west far into the foreseeable future. Hell, around here the Civil War happened just the other day, and that causes enough problems. Over there, they remember wars from 1000 years ago the same way.
Bush screwed the pooch on this.
