Christians, Repugs, Bankruptcy
Finally a Christian group speaks out against this outrageous bankruptcy bill.

Notice that Sen. Grassley tells them its just too bad. But he can't really listen to them because the US is not a theocracy. Hmmm. So the repugs can beat the Bible on abortion, homosexuality, prayer in schools, etc. because it is in their interest but not on bankruptcy.

Ah, the rank smell of hypocrisy!

"A national group of Christian lawyers is appealing to church leaders to join them in lobbying against the bankruptcy reform bill introduced by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Ia.

The lawyers say the legislation runs contrary to the forgiveness of debt and charity required by the Bible."

'In response, Grassley said Congress could not be bound by biblical mandates because "the Constitution does not provide for a theocracy."

"I can't listen to Christian lawyers because I would be imposing the Bible on a diverse population," Grassley said. "I'll bet those lawyers wouldn't want us to impose the principles of forgiving debt every seven years. If that were the law, nobody would loan them money."'

2. My LTTE in their on line section
In today's religion section, the article quotes Senator Grassley:

In response, Grassley said Congress could not be bound by biblical mandates because "the Constitution does not provide for a theocracy."

"I can't listen to Christian lawyers because I would be imposing the Bible on a diverse population," Grassley said. "I'll bet those lawyers wouldn't want us to impose the principles of forgiving debt every seven years. If that were the law, nobody would loan them money."

I am amazed that your reporter didn’t follow up on this statement as to why he’s willing to use that same Biblical code to enforce those religious views on a diverse population when it comes to homosexuals and same sex marriage, prayer in schools and the 10 commandments. Each of those is imposing a particular view of the Bible on American citizens who believe other ways as they feel the Lord has led their hearts.

3. It's all about deadbeats. That is their 'pass'.
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 07:29 PM by higher class
They have painted the deadbeat as their excuse.

The deadbeat reason is the only reason I've read about coming from the procrastinators. I didn't get to hear any of the Senate debate so I can't say for sure, but every reason given in the press centers around deadbeats.

We know the only reason they are doing this is for their kickbacks from their partnerships with the ceo's and stockholders manifested in a seriously discriminatory and bigoted form.

But, they can't admit that it is profit and protection for a few.
So, if the only reason they will put out there is the deadbeat they must be called on it. Deadbeats can be defined and the law can be adjusted to eliminate deadbeats.

The Grassley's of the world are crippled christians. They think that because they have been blessed, the rest of us are inferior.

He is a perfect model for all the temple money lenders, the Scrooges, greedy kings, prime ministers, dictators, presidents, and thieving barons. From now on, all predators of humans can be called the Grassley's. Does he make Ken Lay look like a saint? Examine the breadth of reach of the law he appears to be so eager to win.

Win one for MBNA and BofA, etc. and your pocket, Chuck!

4. Isn't a "religious lawyer" an oxymoron like an "honest lawyer" or
"military intelligence"?

5. OMG, what a crock
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 07:57 PM by moggie12
Thank you to Charles Grassley for saying it in print: The GOP will pick and choose which Bible passages they're going to follow. Those that can be twisted around to fit their propaganda goals (inflaming the social conservatives while robbing them blind) are A-OK. Those that conflict with the interests of the business community that runs the Party, no dice.

Make me barf.

8. Can everybody now see what we liberal Christians have been telling you?
The rightwing, in their hatefests against gays, are secretly supported by this wicked Repub gang. But when true Jesus-following Christians remind them about the Bible's main subject, ie, our society's care for the poor, and fairness in financial dealings, the true (anti) "Christian" nature of this regime is exposed! Grassley says he couldn't "impose the Bible on a diverse population!" when they would select judges who would do just that on the issue of abortion!

They are hypocrites, liars, and thieves when they misuse the name "Christian." And too many here help them get away with it!

10. I heard this ...
.... sorry excuse for a human being on a talk show recently.

I have nothing but contempt for this maggot and everything he says he believes.

Don't worry, the Repukes finally have enough rope and when they get through they will hang themselves.
