DNC: Death of a Sales Pitch: Three Strikes and You're Out.
http://www.democrats.org/news/200503070001.html

Washington, DC - The Democratic National Committee today released both a full transcript and the Cliff's Notes version of Republican Senator Mitch McConnell's interview with Tim Russert on Sunday's Meet The Press. Despite being pressed three times by Russert, McConnell refused to answer a straightforward question on how private accounts would extend Social Security's solvency.

CLIFF'S NOTES TRANSCRIPT
MR. RUSSERT: What does private personal accounts do to fix the solvency problem? I don't understand that.

SEN. McCONNELL: I like private accounts.

MR. RUSSERT: But how does that help the solvency problem?

SEN. McCONNELL: Hmmmm.

MR. RUSSERT: But when the president says Social Security is going to go bankrupt and we have a problem with solvency and the solution is private accounts, people don't understand that connection. Private accounts don't seem to deal with the solvency problem alone. And the White House acknowledges that.

SEN. McCONNELL: At the risk of sounding redundant, me like privatization.

FULL TRANSCRIPT
MR. RUSSERT: What does private personal accounts do to fix the solvency problem? I don't understand that.

SEN. McCONNELL: What personal accounts are is an extraordinarily good investment. Let's take a 25-year-old, for example. Invests $1,000 in regular Social Security, gets a 2 percent return over 40 years, he gets $61,000. That same young person investing that same $1,000 in a personal retirement account, looking at the average return on investment of the stock market, would get $100,000 more. Why don't we at least discuss that in the context of the overall effort to save Social Security for our children and our grandchildren?

MR. RUSSERT: But how does that help the solvency problem?

SEN. McCONNELL: But why not discuss it? If it is a better deal for younger workers, why rule out adding that to the overall discussion of how we not only save Social Security but make it better for the next generation.

MR. RUSSERT: But when the president says Social Security is going to go bankrupt and we have a problem with solvency and the solution is private accounts, people don't understand that connection. Private accounts don't seem to deal with the solvency problem alone. And the White House acknowledges that.

SEN. McCONNELL: What we want to do is make Social Security better for the next generation, in addition to saving it. At the risk of being redundant, it seems to me that the smart thing to do is to discuss all aspects of this. Every good idea ought to come to the table. We're certainly open to any suggestions the Democrats have in any part of this discussion. "

7. It is not hilarious ... they have opened up the issue and they
have not put their plan on the table. We do not know what their assumptions are. If they mean investing in the World Market - the world markets may do 5 times better than the American Market.

They are playing a sociopathic game here.

1) they start the argument
2) they do not put their assumptions and number out there in a detailed plan
3) they get Democrats arguing over what they assume will be the Bush plan
4) if Bush plan deviates because of 'wild' assumptions then the Democratic defence is for naught. Democrats have to then look at the Bush detailed plan and fight that (if it is vicious and manipulative).

MAKE THEM PUT THE PLAN TO PAPER - otherwise they just get Democrats all riled up and then tired and then apathetic before the fight begins again.

MAKE THEM PUT THE PLAN TO PAPER or TELL THEM TO SHUT UP

This pundit on TV is being as vague as can be. Bush & co could even change the SS plan and you wouldn't know because you have never seen it.

Propaganda is vague so that different people will read what they want to in it. DO NOT LET THEM BE VAGUE!
