1. Because they're still at the reading level
where they need great big letters.
And pictures.

As for the exclamation points, I have to think the wingies are a tad excitable.

3. Conservatives all sound like Brak when intelligent people aren't around.
Edited on Mon Mar-07-05 05:58 PM by brainshrub
It's a dirty secret carefully guarded by the RW press. Computer-technology allows conservatives to sound almost human when broadcasting on television or radio; But they still type like they sound.

HI!!!! I SOUND LIKE BRAK NORMALLY, SO I'M GOING TO USE ALL CAPS!!!!!!

9. It's not as universal as it once was
Time was, I could look at the big California ballot proposition book and know which way to vote on almost all propositions, simply by glancing at the arguments pro and con. If one side of the proposition was written in mostly capital letters, I didn't even have to read it. But the last couple elections, that system has broken down--now everyone is screaming at everyone.

...they even use all caps in ballot propositions? That's... I was going to say hilarious, but it's a little scary.

21. Not in the propositions themselves, in the arguments.
The California ballot proposition booklet gives the complete text of the proposition, an "unbiased" (usually actually pretty much so) summary of the proposition and arguments pro and con, and two pages of arguments written by supporters and opposers. It's those two pages of arguments by supporters and opposers that I was talking about glancing at for the most all caps.

11. They think it raises the mike volume
so they can sound like their hero, Insanity Hannity or the Wicked Bitch of the Nest. You know, just try to talk over the liberal.

I find it so disgustingly ironic that their charge is that we can't beat them on facts; how would they know, they've never shut their pie-holes long enough to listen to us. And when they're not yelling us down, they outnumber us 3 to 1 or something on a show so while one shouts, the other two can fellate each other in celebration of their shouting match.

My God its like watching Jerry Springer Uncut or something. :freak: :hurts: :argh: :wtf:

15. It stems from thinking that VOLUME wins arguments
It reminds me of a line that Louie used on the old show "Taxi" when he was trying to fire Latka.

Latka tried to quit, but Louie said it wasn't who said it first, it was who said it loudest. He grabbed the mike and screamed out over the PA "YOU'RE FIRED!"

17. The explanations are really quite simple.
Edited on Mon Mar-07-05 06:18 PM by Zorra
The "Caps Lock" key has been on ever since the technician helped them turn on their computers, and they can't figure out how to turn it off. They are afraid to shut down their computers because they don't know how to turn them back on.

As for the exclamation points: They are frequently used by freepers unconsciously, as a phallic symbol. The number of exclamation points used is directly related to the writer's ever-present distress over his lack of, er, adequacy in the package department of the male room.

18. Funny you should mention that
I just got a letter from my scum bag, right-wing asshole congressman, Tom Feeny. He was responding to my letter about Social Security and of course he was all for privatization, like all good lap-dog Republicans. I noticed that he signed his name in huge capital letters, his whole name printed in caps! What the fuck, the last time I did that was in like, first grade.

Every now and then, someone writes me personally to say: YOU'RE A LIBERAL IDIOT!!!! YOU'RE RUINING AMERICA!!!!! GOD LOVES GEORGE W. BUSH BUT YOU'RE TOO STUPID TO REALIZE IT!!!!

You should try harder to piss them off. There's a whole subculture of them who just read the comments on liberal blogs and boards just to toss off angry e-mails.

31. There was a thread in the Lounge the other day,
asking for our opinion on the funniest DU thread we'd ever read.

I vote for this one. Almost every reply was more hilarious than the last, and all were cogent and to the point.

Thanks, all, for giving me a bunch of laughs tonight. I needed them.

Or they are so agitated that they are pounding the hell out of their keyboards with the caps lock on, and the exclamation points are so they don't start destroying their own computers while they are throwing their pathetic temper tantrums.

37. Children and adolescents often shout and scream at adults.
They know that they have little to say, so they make loud noises to compensate. Sort of like rightists often have a houseful of guns to compensate for other...er, shortcomings.
