I wanted to click over there, in part because I have a stray.
Turns out one of the benifactors, the North Shore Animal League, is where my sister got her pup.
We're all stray dogs. Thanks WMWIO.

You'd think I'd have read that before having relatives that owned a place called the "Washington Irving Lodge" in Tannersville.
I miss the Catskill Mountains.
"Whoever has made a voyage up the Hudson must remember the Catskill Mountains. They are a dismembered branch of the great Appalachian family, and are seen away to the west of the river, swelling up to a noble height, and lording it over the surrounding country. Every change of season, every change of weather, indeed, every hour of the day, produces some change in the magical hues and shapes of these mountains, and they are regarded by all the good wives, far and near, as perfect barometers. When the weather is fair and settled, they are clothed in blue and purple, and print their bold outlines on the clear evening sky; but sometimes, when the rest of the landscape is cloudless, they will gather a hood of gray vapors about their summits, which, in the last rays of the setting sun, will glow and light up like a crown of glory."
I'll go hit that donate button again.
Thanks for the reading assignment. ;)

Many a summer, and school for a few years. The story triggered wonderful images.
That said...go west, and explore!

I loved the little puppy on the front page. I wish I could take him/her home with me. My parents don't want any pets though. :( We used to have a dog a long time ago and since he was a mixed hyperactive breed and we're all older and busy I guess that's why. Anything to help the sweeties!

9. I am personally feeding a stray mama dog in my neighborhood. |
|
I carry a plate of food across the street for this wild and confused animal on a daily basis. Now I have two of her pups to care for. One showed up on my doorstep. He was huddled against it and a little ball of fur. The other wandered away from the rest of the litter and I captured her in my yard. They are too cute for words. Meet Rascal Meet Puddin'.

on your dog. I think the one I had was a lil mixed. Sometimes he'd be so sweet and play with you and share and then other times he'd be like "that's mine." :eyes:

She's been doing it daily for a few years but I had forgotten where it was. Has taken in half a dozen stray animals -- cats and rabbits, too.
I've had a stray cat for about five years, and one from the pound. Been feeding stray bunnies in the back yard for a couple of years as well. Some even come up and take food out of my hand. Somebody a couple of blocks away let theirs loose and they've been breeding all over the neighborhood. Gah. Food for the foxes we see periodically coming down the street. :-(
I took in a stray dog as a teenager too. The little pooch was running around a store parking lot, just being narrowly missed by cars. Put an ad in the paper but nobody claimed her. So our family's done pretty well by stray animals. But I've always wished I was rich enough to take them ALL in.
I admire people who can work with animal rescue or for animal rights causes. It always pains me deeply to think of suffering animals. And I sometimes wonder if that's why the people at PETA seem so goofy sometimes. To have to deal with, think about and see all the suffering and cruelty that goes on on a daily basis would certainly make ME go bonkers. If you care enough to work for the cause you're also going to be subjecting yourself to things unbearable for you to contemplate.
