RW C-Span caller says war violence OK because Jesus used a whip
to chase the money changers out of the temple which was an "act of violence." (Then he called the previous caller a fool for having the opinion that war and violence were un-Christian.)
:wtf:
That the Constitution is a religous document because the date is written as "in the year of our lord..."
:eyes:
That "voting is a priviledge not a right."
:wtf:

Whoo boy. I think that was enough Washington Journal for me this morning.

Grasping at straws and calling that reality to justify rewriting history.

I saw * on the CBS news show on Saturday morning. They asked him about Social Security and he said: "Everyone thinks there's not a (SS) crisis, but there is a crisis and I'm going to keep saying until it sinks in."

Is he threatening us? What kind of language is that. I'm apalled. It sounds like he's a horrible parent lecturing a child.

16. But he IS a "horrible parent lecturing a 'child'"
That's how he sees himself, at least in some ways, or likes to present himself.

Not that he'd have any idea what non-horrible parenting was like...

4. Well yeah
That bit about the Whip I've heard before. And the bible does not require its readers to become pacifists. You might feel it as a personal choice and I can respect that, but the bible is pretty clear that pacifism is not required.

On the other hand removing from oneself hatred or murderous anger is required. And the Bible makes it pretty clear that war like leaders will answer one day.

Consider this bit from the 140th Psalm

1 DELIVER me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man;

2 Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.

3 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders’ poison is under their lips. Selah.

Sound like anybody we know?

17. What does chasing the moneylenders out of the temple have
to do with justifying war?? Quite a stretch, isn't it?

20. I don't know
If Violence is the answer in one situation, violence may be the answer in another?

But I have to admit, if I were going to make an argument that Christians can engage in necessary war, I would probably use other scriptures.

Also, just so to make sure you don't get the wrong idea, I don't support the war in Iraq.

5. Oh dear God
and I mean that as a prayer.

Christ used the whip against the rich who abused the poor. Poor people did not get hurt by Christ's violence.

6. It was an "act of violence" directed toward
the entrenched religious and political leaders who were defiling his Father's house. Does the caller really want to go there?

Let the armies fight with WHIPS!!!

I'd pay to watch such a war. :spank:

9. Indiana Jesus!
The Christian caller was right in a sense. While the Jesus (i.e.; the 'Christian') part of the Bible is one of peace, love, compassion and mercy, that's the part a lot of Christians toss out. They prefer the god of the OT who likes to 'dash infants heads against rocks'. Christianity is a tribal blood cult with a history steeped in violence and atrocities.

10. I have always felt that those who speak such things, should be afforded
the opportunity to feel the lash, or be tortured by their government.

It is easy to say things like that are fine, when you are not on the receiving end of the situation.

All of the CINO's should read the New Testament, and not have others do th work for them, maybe they would realize that Jesus spoke out against hypocrisy far more than anything else. I have always found it strange that all of the Love, Peace, Understanding, Compassion and Aid to those of lesser means are what defines humanity. But it would be too much to ask for these people to "think".

11. WHAT?!?!
That's just crazy talk!

Jesus used a whip--but very unlikely on people, because the "violence" described in the Bible is directed toward overturning tables. Furthermore, Jesus wasn't torturing prisoners--he was driving out corruption!

I'm glad I wasn't listening. My blood pressure probably wouldn't have been able to handle it.

People who talk like that just make me sick.

14. It is crazy talk.
Unfortunately, there are many people who have the same opinions as the caller. I think that they get "talking points" from their churches and RW talk radio.

When you listen to them, you can tell that they all have certain phrases that they bandy about. Yet, if you ask them to explain their point further, they can't.
For instance, my office manager swears that God is mentioned in the Constitution. I tried to tell her that the word is not in the ocument, but she doesn't believe me. She's obviously never read the document. She truly believes that the US Constitution says that the US is a Christian nation.

She has no higher education, doesn't watch TV news or read the national papers. She doesn't even read the editorial page of the local paper. She does read all of the Left Behind books.

In fact, C-Span had one of the columnists on when the whip guy called in. The discussion was about government funded faith-based charities.
