Lies and Death Surrounding Spin (Jessica Lynch/Nicola Calipari)
At the beginning of the invasion, an innocent girl was thrust into the spotlight when wounded in action.

Stories spread how she was a virtual Rambo and of a daring rescue.

All Bullshit.

Truth was that she was greviously injured and cared for with compassion and the rest was hollywooded up for a hero story to bolster the young war.

Truth is:

A cruel irony
Purple Heart recipient who helped save Jessica Lynch slain at home
By Kristopher Hanson
Staff writer

LONG BEACH Family members, friends and fellow Marines gathered Monday to mourn the death of a decorated Marine who survived a land mine explosion during Operation Iraqi Freedom only to be shot dead while on a weekend leave in Long Beach.

Lance Cpl. Sok Khak Ung, a 22-year-old combat engineer who participated in the rescue operation of Army Pfc. Jessica Lynch in April and was awarded the Purple Heart for taking shrapnel to the leg two weeks later, died early Sunday after a gunman opened fire as he and several friends were barbecuing oysters behind his father's home.

<snip>

Funeral services are being planned for San Francisco, where Ung's family is deciding whether to have Ung buried in a national cemetery. Marine Battalion Officer Mike Jernigan, who visited the family Monday afternoon, said Ung is eligible for a military burial with all expenses and honors afforded someone who dies in combat.

Besides the Purple Heart, Ung was awarded the Combat Action ribbon, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and two Sea Service Deployment ribbons.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to contact detectives Bryan McMahon or David Rios at (562) 570-7244.

(This was archived earlier and is no longer available on the web as far as I know. It was on the Long Beach Press Telegram website.)

Remembering the Lynch story and the fallout after the truth leaked out makes me take any explanation from Occupying forces with a boulder of salt.

1. Great post, an excellent reminder of how the "official story"
from the Pentagon almost always turns out to be nothing but a steaming pile.

2. Thanks....
The Italian version seems to become more interesting by the hour. Now they are saying the vehicle was stopped and plans had been given.

around here that the Kurds captured Saddam doped him up dropped him in a hole and called us up to come and get him. If I remember correctly he was turned in by a woman who's family he had killed..

But of course, back then it was just tinfoil America-hating to discuss it.

(damnit can I ever post without a typo edit?)

16. Yes. It's becoming as if there's a comspiracy to drive up the price of
tin foil.

The Rovian tactics or PR ne propoganda just don't wash in the world of the internet. You'd think that they'd figure it out by now.

6. When Bush says something, its TRUE.
When Bush stops an investigation,
it is because it may say something different what HE said and
when Bush says something it TRUE.

A Marine who was home for the first time since fighting in Iraq died Sunday morning when the vehicle he was driving veered off State 11 and crashed into some trees, authorities said.

Josh Daniel Speer, 21, died instantly about 8 a.m. while en route to his fiancee's house, said Kent Dill, a Greenville County deputy coroner.

Speer was a member of a unit that helped rescue Jessica Lynch, the Army private captured by Iraqis near Nasiriyah, said Capt. Shawn Turner, a corps spokesman. Details of the unit's role weren't available, he said.

14. As to 22-year-old Lance Cpl. Sok Khak Ung
Press-Telegram - News
October 21, 2003
Long Beach, CA

Police do not have a motive for the shooting, which occurred just
after 1 a.m. Sunday when a hooded gunman reached over a wooden fence in the 1200 block of East Seventh Street and fired six to eight
bullets. Ung, Tho and three others were in the back yard and a
carport, enjoying barbecue and beer.

(snip)

These two didn't have any problems with anybody,' said Chanthan
Loeung, a friend of both men who left the barbecue get-together
shortly before the shooting. "They weren't gang members or out
starting (trouble) or fighting with people or anything like that. I
mean, Sok was like a real-life hero and (Tho) was just a laid-back
kind of guy who was really into his music. I guess they're not
kidding when they say the good die young.'
