CNN: President to 'Capitalize' On Concern Over High Fuel Prices

Bush visiting Ohio to tout "clean coal" efforts
http://www.kcautv.com/Global/story.asp?S=3050504&nav=1kgl2TNN

WHITE HOUSE- With no relief in sight for sky-high oil prices, President Bush is visiting a research lab in Ohio today to make the case for so-called "clean coal" technology.

He'll use the visit to the Battelle (buh-TEL') Memorial Institute in Columbus to urge Congress to get moving on two stalled initiatives: his energy plan, and his "Clear Skies" power-plant proposal.

The president's budget includes 286 (m) million dollars for research into ways to reduce the sulfur content of coal, which contributes to acid rain.

Bush wants to encourage more domestic energy production. And his so-called "Clear Skies" plan would place new pollution limits on power plants, but allow operators to trade emission credits. Environmentalists say the plan would actually delay badly needed cleanups.

Suzanne Malveux just reported that Bush will "capitalize" on concerns over gas prices- which the administration is saying will go as high as $2.15 a gallon this spring- by returning to his failed energy proposals that have stalled in Congress. Right before the report two commercials caught my attention:

One was from Phillip Morris promoting its 'plan' to help smokers kick their habit, and the other was from Boeing which showed images of jets flying by as they touted their technology that they claim will give us 'cleaner air'.

That is the approach of this administration toward conservation and the environment in the stalled energy legislation that Bush wants to revive to make it appear he is acting on these high gas prices, and in turn make Congress look like they are responsible instead of his family's oil buddies. They want to solve the gas crisis by drilling for more oil in ANWAR, they tout proposals for 'clean' coal, and they are pushing 'clean air' provisions that will allow polluters to shuffle and trade off emissions in a shell game to make it appear that they are reducing emissions. Also included in the blocked Energy bill are nuclear provisions that include funding for production of new, bunker-busting bombs.

That's the approach of these duplicitous liars in the White House. They see more war as a way to peace, invasion and occupation as freedom; they want to destroy social security to save it by dismantling it and spending trillions, they claimed that giving away our tax dollars to those wealthy who didn't need a break would fix the economy; they cut down more trees as part of their 'Healthy Forests' initiatives; more nukes will make us safer; an on and on . . .

War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength. -Orwell

8. It's funny you should mention wind technology . . .
INEEL, the U.S. Department of Energy's Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory- the nation's primary lab for all of the nuclear madness since 1952- is sponsoring and promoting Energy and Wind Systems on Native American land. (http://energy.inel.gov/powersystems/wind/)

I hate to be so cynical, but . . . INEEL's primary function since the mid 70's was the clean-up of their own toxic waste. They are the lead facility for nuclear R&D. INEEL gets 70% of their funding for waste disposal. New plants are contemplated in the Energy and Defense legislation which would utilize the new generation of recycled nuclear fuels (MOX mixed-oxide, hydrogen based, depleted uranium, etc.). These centers will almost certainly be formatted to accommodate the next generation of nuclear weapons, such as, mini tactical nukes and bunker- busters. INEEL will undoubtably be at the center of this effort. The INEEL is operated for the DOE by Bechtel.

I believe the aim of large energy corporations is to develop these alternative energy companies just to control the alternative industry so that these technologies never threaten their primary endeavors in oil and nuclear. Buy up all of the meaningful efforts and control their expansion and development.

Cynical? Maybe so, but I should be forgiven for thinking that these nuclear executives actually give a damn about conservation and alternatives on one hand as they push for more environmentally destructive options with the other.

9. WTF?
* invades, excuse me, liberates Iraq which causes widespread instability throughout the ME, oil prices skyrocket and HE is not responsible?

When I first read the heading, I thought he would be using high prices as justification for invasion of Iran, Indonesia and Venezuala.
