Pelosi: 'President Bush's Place Among Most Fiscally Irresponsible Leaders in Our History is Secure'

WASHINGTON, March 11 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the announcements of the largest one-month budget deficit in U.S. history and the second-largest trade deficit in history:

"The Bush Administration continues to set records of dubious distinction. With the highest one-month budget deficit and the second highest trade deficit ever, President Bush's place among the most fiscally irresponsible leaders in our history is secure.

"The February budget deficit of $114 billion was the first time the deficit for any one month has exceeded $100 billion, and the trade deficit in January increased to $58.3 billion, the second highest on record. The highest, of course, was also on President Bush's watch.

"The Bush Administration's policies are fiscally reckless and morally irresponsible, and will have real consequences for generations to come. These deficits mean interest rates will rise and economic growth will slow. Meanwhile, we are passing on mountains of debt to our children and grandchildren.

"The President does not even recognize the seriousness of these problems. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, the Bush budget will increase the deficit by $1.6 trillion over the next 10 years. When will the President admit that his policies are failing, and get serious about reducing these deficits?"

4. Fiscally irresponsibe is a useless phrase
Fiscally foolish
Debt crazy
Budget challenged

Some conservatives love it when we call Bush fiscally irresponsible.

5. "Among" the most irresponsible?
I can't think of anyone in Stupidhead's league for financial mismanagement! But that quibble aside, it's good to see Pelosi releasing a statement like this. Keep it up Nancy, and it might even get mentioned on the news, seeing as it has facts and stuff to back it up and make it a credible assertion.

Now tie his financial incompetence with the spectacle of this boob trying to tell Americans how to manage the Social Security system.

6. I am again amazed....
A post receives a flurry of positive responses and then sinks into the abyss.

If one supports the premise, nominate it so those in other forums have a chance of reading it as well.

9. Didn't Gephart use that back in Feb' 04?
If not "incompetent" something close.

Anyone have a transcript of the speech?

10. "He's incompetent," "He frightens me," "He's hard to help,"

The media conspiracy descends on Gephardt in Iowa.

Though in an interview he insisted that the president was smart, on the stump he's not shy about insinuating that the president (whom he often refers to as "Dubya") is stupid. "He's incompetent," "He frightens me," "He's hard to help," I told him America founded the United Nations because "I wasn't sure he knew the history," and "If you'd been meeting with him every week since 9/11, you'd be running for president," too. Because Bush refused to negotiate with Kim Jong Il, North Korea is now "weeks away" from producing nuclear bombs. Bush abandoned the peace negotiations between Israel and Palestine, saying, "It's not our problem." He's arrogant. He doesn't play well with others. By the end, people are satisfied enough with Gephardt's explanation, and maybe even a little terrified, but you get the sense that they're not enthused by it.
