Just paid off Chase Manhattan
Edited on Sat Mar-12-05 11:20 AM by chimpsrsmarter
my last cc with a balance...."Mrs. X are you unhappy with your service?" "Why yes i am, thanks for asking, seeing as how you wrote the bankruptcy bill that hurts my fellow americans i've decided i will now have a pay as i go policy"
"What if you need to book airline tickets?" "I will either use my debit card or American express card, i'll save for things now and that way i'll appreciate them more, you dig?"

2. Good for you!!
I got rid of credit cards in 1991, when all those junk fees started to appear. Silly me, I thought 18.9% interest was giving them enough profit, little did I know that the wolf was at the door and they desperately needed to charge me an extra $25/month because the snail mail didn't deliver the payment on time.

The odd thing is how little I've missed them. In fact, I haven't missed them at all.

3. i don't miss them either, in the past 2 years we've paid off
MBNA and Capitol one and now we actually have to save if we want something which is good imo because it really makes think about a need from a want.

5. yup, it hurts a bit in the short term but in the long term i feel better
about not adding to their coffers. Chase and i had an 18 year relationship and as i told "Wendy", it's just not working out anymore, we've grown apart and i don't like the crowd you're hanging out with.

6. It's going to take me a while to pay mine off ...
... but damn it, I'm going to do it.

Don't forget that when you make payments above the minimum, insist that the rest of it goes toward PRINCIPAL, not interest.

8. 5 more months...
...and I'm free, too. I so hope that this all backfires on those greedy bastards and people just opt out of their voluntary slavery scam. I know there are a lot of people who can't do this for reasons beyond their control but, if everyone who can, did, it just might send them a message.

Also, now that their profits are assured by the new bogus bankruptcy bill, when do their usurious interest rates start going down? Aren't the 18-25% rates based on the risk that certain customers will avoid payment? Why wasn't a redefinition of usury included in the bill? Since everyone will now be compelled to pay regardless, in most cases, of any extenuating circumstances, their risk seems to be greatly diminished.

10. Sure thing.
:eyes: Who really thinks the Greedy CC companies will lower rates to consumers just because the bankruptcy bill has lowered their risk? I won't be holding my breath, waiting.

9. GOOD FOR YOU !! (and the others on the thread who did the same)
if you are just starting out, pick the card with the lowest balance and the highest interest rate and sock the payments to it, when it's paid take that $$$ (plus the minimum payment you've been making) and hit the next lowest balance etc etc etc until they are all paid
