MoDo column (NYT): Having Tenet take the fall "won't fly" -
"Mr. Tenet, in his continuing effort to ingratiate himself to his bosses, agreed to take the fall, trying to minimize a year's worth of war-causing warping of intelligence as a slip of the keyboard. "These 16 words should never have been included in the text written for the president," he said, in 15 words that were clearly written for him on behalf of the president. But it won't fly...."

MoDo is not infrequently as bad as any of the supine media. However, today, she's on our side.

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/07/13/opinion/13DOWD.html

Some particularly amusing parts:

  • She whines about "the cowed media" -- yet she's often a perfect example of this herself.

  • She whines "Why does it always come to this in Washington?" even though she herself has played a role in letting Bush get this far, & also in helping to discredit Gore.

  • She speculates it was Cheney that made Rice keep the disputed line in the SOTU speech.

    1. Speaking of Cheney,
That shifty-eyed bastard was speaking out of the side of his mouth at the SS Ronald Reagan festivities. Could only take him for a couple of minutes, but first he joked about how he was sure that everyone was disappointed that he didn't make his entrance on an aircraft carrier like Mr. pResident. Than he talked how our enemies in foreign lands would shiver in their boots when they saw the SSRonald Reagan coming 'round the bend.

They are oblivious as to how inappropriate their continuing cowboy machismo is in the current crisis. They don't seem to get, or care about human suffering, always painting it over with boastful nationalistic pride.

If it's the oil that runs in your veins keeping you alive, you can go over and guard the wells yourself.

    4. I'm glad I didn't see it. Unfortunately, though,
your description conveys enough of it, that I almost feel like I saw it, anyway.

PS - Hope you liked your giant-size version of "Starry Nights" the other day! :-)

    5. Yes, very much so,
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! The image drifted into my mind today.

    :-) ;-) ;-)

Now, about Condoleeza. You know she is whiter than me? My hair is curlier too since I just cut off my 2 foot braid...(why do I always want to chat with you?;))But, I was thinking, other Afro-American women in politics, or even in the public eye, don't provoke that reaction---Barbara Lee, Maxine Waters--Whoopie, hell- Oprah...but it's like she has this overwhelming ambition to not only be white, but a WASP. That's all she is, a WASP.

This is probably not the place, anyway, off to do something constructive. Ciao. ;-)

    8. Sorry you feel that way
Harry Belafonte, now doubt would agree with me.

You want me to talk about Bush as stupid white man?

    2. The Dowd is up!
    Here is my favorite part:

In a hole, the president should have done some plain speaking: "The information I gave you in the State of the Union about Iraq seeking nuclear material from Africa has been revealed to be false. I'm deeply angry and I'm going to get to the bottom of this."

But of course he couldn't say that. He would be like Sheriff Bart in "Blazing Saddles," holding the gun to his own head and saying, "Nobody move or POTUS gets it." The Bush administration has known all along that the evidence of the imminent threat of Saddam's weapons and the Al Qaeda connections were pumped up. They were manning the air hose.

    9. Still a media slut.
Her whole theme was that *Bush is just about as bad as Clinton - but not quite. She's full of just as much crap as *Bush.

    12. This is absolutely true.
"So why is he (Bush) now presiding over a completely Clintonian environment..."

    WTF? :wtf:

    15. Agreed ... I really resent drawing comparisons to Clinton....
Big damn difference between lying about sex and lying about your justification to go to war. No one died over the blowjob ... ( although I'm sure it was contemplated ... :) )

    11. I think Tenet wrote the statement. The WH wouldn't have been as oblique.
The statement would have had a more mea maxima culpa feel.

    13. Better late than never. And MoDo is a queen bee whore.
She greatly influences the opinions of the "kool kidz" of the media. She called them "cowed". Maybe, must maybe some of them will prove their manhood and womanhood by exposing the chimp.
