Worst RW talk-radio station in America?
Please note that this is NOT a poll as there will probably be too many nominations...

For the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I nominate KLIF 570AM. They're a Fox affiliate, they've run a sickening billboard ad campaign, and they're trash-taking the upcoming Air America affiliate on KXEB 910AM.

Your nominations, please!

This is news to me, but very good news. Now come on down I-35 to Austin, where AA will flourish!

AAR is already broadcasting in Corpus Christi. We're just waiting for the T-shirts and bumper stickers to come out so we can promote this thing.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=180x11183

And the neocon talk show people are already bitching about it..one of them said the new station won't last in "Bush country". Obviously he is choosing to ignore that Dallas County went 49% blue, elected a Hispanic lesbian for county sheriff, and the right wing rag Dallas Whoring News can't keep it's circulation numbers up without manipulating them and throwing free papers onto our driveways at least twice a month <they can't even give the damn thing away).

from "American Dreams"? That's one of my dad's favorite shows. I call it his soap opera. :eyes: The girl Rachel Boston is my dad's boss' daughter so of course he has to watch. I'm glad the show is doing well. :) It's a good family show. Sorry to go off topic. I only listen to AAR online and a few other democratic talk shows so anything that has Bill O'Reilly on there gets my nomination. Ew. The station KGO that has either Bernie Ward or Guy James (can't remember) I think plays six hours of O'Reilly or Rush (one of the two) so I nominate that.

52. That is the cast of American Dreams
And no it's no doing so well in the ratings anymore. It was getting crushed on Sunday nights by CBS's Cold Case (which is at least a worthy opponent) and the inane Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (another "reality show" put on the air at the expense of good professional television). So NBC cut back the season from 19 to 17 episodes and moved it to Wednesday night...where the show now gets to compete with Lost, Survivor and American Idol.

I have become very attached to this show and I'm going to be pissed as hell if it gets cancelled by the bean counters at NBC.

If the show means a lot to you and your Dad and you want to save if from the Show Killers at NBC send a postcard (letters might not get opened) to:

4. In Knoxville, TN - WNOX News Talk 990
The day starts out OK - with a local, semi-conservative talk show host. He's pretty much a paelo-con, but has some Religious Wingnut tendancies - not too bad.
But, then it goes onto:
Neal Boortz
Rush Limbaugh
Local sports (non-political)
Bill O'Reilly
Michael Savage

Nothing, nada, no countering opinion whatsoever at any time of the day.

14. Once you get down to the level of local ad campaigns, yer splitting hairs
The Big Evil of broadcasting the same fascistic bullshit, rightwing hate-speech, and bushco-approved bullet-point propaganda 24/7 on public airwaves has already been committed. That's several orders of magnitude nastier than anything they might do as a corollary.

Furthermore, since local activities are going to be the distinguishing criteria by default, how many market-area ad campaigns have you experienced nationwide? Even in liberal Portland, I've seen ads for talk radio that quite frankly make my blood boil. It'll come down to everyone nominating the worst of what they've seen locally, without a solid basis for comparison.

It just seems fruitless, IMHO.

Edited on Sun Mar-13-05 05:20 PM by Spiffarino
It's all right-wing spew all the time. What's worse, most of the shows are overtly religious. No, I don't think there is anything wrong with religious broadcasting at all. In this case, however, there is no pretense of political balance: every religious show has a blatant right-wing political message.

They put up billboards around town with a big wavy American flag and huge, cursive letters that say "One Nation - Under GOD."

But that just doesn't do the station justice as a motto. It should be, "Vote Republican or go to Hell, heathens!"

18. Liberal/Progressive Talk Radio Over the Internet!!!!!
You don't have to wait for a local station. There is plenty of programming available over the internet, and some of these shows can be downloaded for play on an IPod. There's even a $30 software package available so that you can record the programs you want to listen to later. Here are just a few websites:

SCHEDULES:

Liberal/Progressive Talk Radio
http://www.geocities.com/liberalprogressivetalk/

Liberal Cartoons (scroll down the page)
http://www.liberalcartoons.com/liberalradio.html

ARCHIVES:

The White Rose Society (archives most of the most popular shows)
http://www.whiterosesociety.org/

MAJOR STATIONS:

Air America
(multiple hosts throughout the day)
http://www.airamericaradio.com/

Progressive Liberal Talk Radio Network
(multiple hosts throughout the day)
http://www.radiopower.org/talkradio/

Radio Left
http://blog.radioleft.com/blog

INDIVIDUAL SHOWS WORTH LISTENING TO (in no particular order, btw):

The Stephanie Miller Show
http://www.wavz.com/main.html

The Thom Hartmann Show
http://www.thomhartmann.com/

Mark Levine's Radio Inside Scoop (former Congressional Staff Attorney)
http://www.radioinsidescoop.com/

The Guy James Show
http://www.theguyjamesshow.com/

The Ed Schultz Show
http://www.bigeddieradio.com/

Springer (Jerry) on the Radio
http://www.springerontheradio.com/newuser/writeuser/

Peter Werbe
http://www.peterwerbe.com/ontheair.html

The Tony Trupiano Show
http://www.thetonyshow.com/

So, really, there's no need to wait! Some of the individual shows are better than some of the Air America shows, some not. Many of the individual shows are rebroadcasts at different times during the day and on weekends. Play mix-and-match until you find the ones you want to listen to and be sure and call in!

20. I think 104.7 in Pittsburgh is the worst...
Their lineup:

Quinn & Rose (local morning wingnuts who's promos for the show include jokes about shooting at liberals...they're probably the furthest to the right in the whole lineup)

Glenn Beck (one of those "really-i'm-not-a-republican-i-just-hate-democrats" types)

Rush

Hannity

local sports guy (non political and he's actually pretty fun to listen to)

Savage

They run that Coast to Coast UFO show overnight so you get kill-a-liberal wingnuttery from 5AM to 10PM every day.

A Cox Communications station. Rumor is the Cox sisters are liberal.

Neal Boortz from 8:30-1

Consumer reporter Clark Howard, the most listened to show in Atlanta, was cut by an hour to make room for Sean Hannity.

Royal Marshall, who is Boortz's producer, black, and by all indications a moderate, had his own show cancelled recently to make room for Michael Savage.

32. Don't forget KKKVI, 570 AM in Seattle
KKKVI is still offering airtime to the odious John Carlson, whose IQ must be exceeded by room temperature. Carlson once called me a "radical paranoid feminist" on the air; he was speechless when I responded that I would be sure to have the above carved on my tombstone. Since I love to hate Art Bell, another denizen of KKKVI, I get to listen to the RW swill at station breaks. It seems they're getting desperate. Flogging the listenership into a rage over Dino Lossi isn't working for them like they may have thought.

KIRO-AM has now hired another liberal from 9-12 noon to counter Air America, they sent their RW shill Dori Monson off to midafternoon hell, and Mike Webb of KIRO, an unabashed liberal, has the best ratings numbers at the station.

LMAO.

28. Gotta be KLIF in Dallas
If I am working late I like to listen to KLIF because they have Coast to Coast AM, which is generally loopy. They have very few advertisers, so half of the ad time is ads for other KLIF programs. So even though I'm listening after midnight I have to hear obnoxious ads for Glenn Beck, Ancarlo (sp?) and all that other crap.

They also have tons of ads about how they are a Faux news affiliate, and the damn ads are longer than the hourly Faux news segment itself.

Oh, and they sponsored a "support the troops" rally before the election last year and had Pete Sessions (R-Asshole) there but not Martin Frost. (Blatant implication: Martin Frost hates America)

But I just can't stand to listen to those promos during the breaks. So, today my wife bought me a membership to C to C Streamlink, now I can download the shows I want and not have to sully my enjoyment by having to dial up KLIF.

35. The demise of WLS IS the saddest thing in the American radio landscape...
I agree with others who have said is it DISGRACEFUL that Chicago's WLS is such a vat of rightwing poison in this blue, blue, Blue, BLUE state! But it is WORSE than that!

For WLS was at least somewhat "fair and balanced" before the Disney company took out their hatchets. One by one, every host who had even an INKLING of a fair thought was terminated in the most heartless and naked way! First Mike Malloy, then Nancy Skinner (okay, she helped them) and then Ski, then (!) Gary Meier, then even Jay Marvin--and they even let Don and Roma hang out there for several weeks, wondering if they were still enough of Bushbots to be employed there!!

The ONLY decent show that is left is Nate Clay on Saturday nights, if you happen to be awake from 12-3 am. ( I think they are afraid of him!)

I wrote, I begged, I threatened, I pleaded--all to deaf ears! And all the mail I sent to Don to protest his convoluted thinking. What a waste of time. They knew what they were doing, who they were serving, just like the editorials brought in from extremists (Mark Steyn!) to the Chicago Sun-Times!

They promote "know nothings" with big attitudes like Eileen Byrne and Deborah Rowe, heads full of their own greatness and little else. Then there is Teri O'Brien who is absolutely the WORST--silky evil voice saying the most hateful things. And saying them on a Sunday, where Ski and Skinner used to be! Hate radio is what they are--from a once great historic station.

41. Well.......
Gary Meier did himself in with some pretty outrageous demands, reportedly with his wife negotiating for him, when his contract came up last year. I seem to recall she "negotiated" him right out of a contract renewal at WLUP, too.

And Nancy Skinner really shouldn't have been surprised that they let her go when she announced her candidacy for the Senate, particularly when she'd never discussed it with them before announcing it on the air during her show with Ski. That was to be expected.

But please don't forget about Dave Jennings on Saturday evenings. He's the last before-midnight liberal voice they've got around there.

during the week.

On Saturday they have the "Taxpayers League" radio show (we call them the Taxevaders League), the local proxy group between the state Republicans and out of state money intrests. They also have a couple more local shows and the "Best of Michael Reagan".

Farther up the dial, we have KSTP-AM 1500. They have Rush, Hannity, and local right wing hosts.
http://www.am1500.com/

Up in NW MN you get WDAY-AM out of Fargo and KCNN-AM out of Grand Forks. WDAY has local right wing nut Scott Hennen who Ed Schultz crushed on his local show. WDAY's competitor is KFGO, which has a unique scheudle. Local Democrat and soon to be former minoity leader Joel Heitkemp to go against Hennen and then Rush then Ed Shultz. It is going through a bipolar stage (KFGO is also a Clear Channel Station).

49. KFYI/Phoenix and Barry Young, a toadstool looking for a frog.
His "style" is condescending sarcasm. The problem is that he is basically a moron, and spews out whatever comes to mind.

He is a favorite target of Benson the "Arizona Republic" cartoonist. Draws him as a little ugly freak...of course which he is.

They are by far the worst of the lot. They are by far the worst of the bunch.

You start with Don Wade, a sneering loudmouth with his token liberal;his wife,Roma, followed by the Irish right winger from NY, Eileen Byrne. Always with the snide comments and chuckling at anything said by a liberal.
Then they have the queen bitch, Terry O'Brien. She is so far out there that I cannot listen to her whine voice. The evening has Hannity and mid morning they have Limbaugh.

The only liberal voice they had, Jay Marvin, they canned.
