Terrorism Report Not Marked Confidential
Hawaiian officials posted Homeland Security report, says not marked Confidential. Chertoff says a mistake but was it a mistake or do you think like I do that Bush & Co. are just using it for Fear Tactics ?

US plans for plague, flu and nuclear bomb attack
From Roland Watson in Washington

A NUCLEAR bomb in a big city, plague released into an airport washroom and food stocks laced with anthrax are three of fifteen doomsday scenarios inadvertently published by American security chiefs yesterday.

The list, released mistakenly on to a website in Hawaii, shows where security officials believe the United States to be most vulnerable. It also includes a detailed breakdown of the expected casualties and economic costs that such attacks — and some natural disasters — would exact. One of the most deadly of the 15 scenarios is a flu pandemic, which begins in southern China and spreads within months to four leading American cities, claiming the lives of 87,000 and putting 300,000 in hospital, the plans estimate.
A ten-kilotonne nuclear bomb driven by van into a big city before being detonated would be the most expensive, costing hundreds of billions of dollars, according to the planners. Casualties from such an explosion “could vary widely”, they say.

Mistake Made in Terrorism Report Release-US Agency
WASHINGTON Hawaii made a mistake by posting on its Web site a confidential report by the U.S. Homeland Security agency that listed potential ways terrorists might attack the United States, including detonating a nuclear bomb, the head of the agency said on Wednesday.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff told reporters the draft report by his department had been shared with state and local officials. It was posted by accident on a Hawaii government Web site.

Hawaii official says Homeland Security report not marked confidential

HONOLULU (AP) _ A spokesman for state Defense Department says a Homeland Security document cataloguing possible terrorist attacks that was posted on a state Web site was NOT marked confidential.

The Department of Homeland Security's National Planning Scenario outlines possible scenarios for terrorist attacks.

Homeland Security officials say the report is confidential and will be made public in the next few months.

The Seattle Times
A truck driven by terrorists goes down the streets of five large cities over two weeks quietly spraying anthrax spores, ultimately exposing 328,000 people and killing 13,300 while costing the economy billions of dollars.

It's a chilling possibility, one of 15 doomsday scenarios that Homeland Security authorities developed at the request of President Bush to better focus funding and to help state and local officials plan for terrorism and natural disasters.

1. I think the Dept wants the public to know that it is working on scenarios
such as this. It actully is a plus for the department--to show that their are doing something ----and making good use of the money. Just a thought.

3. I disagree. It's a scare tactic to keep us focused on the imminent attack.
It's also funny that many of the scenerios have come from '24' as well as other recent shows :-)

4. Doubtful....
This bunch doesn't do anything without considering the political effect. This report has now been in the works for sixteen months and is intended to ask state and local authorities what they plan to do about such eventualities, rather than how the feds plan to respond. That's why a draft of it ended up on a state site in Hawaii.

This report has likely cost many, many millions. I could have turned over the request for a report to five science writers and had twenty probable, detailed scenarios in a week.

5. no mistake
That a report of this nature is "accidentally" released when bush's ratings hit an all-time low.

Scare, scare, scare. Fear, fear, fear. Terra terra terra. These people have such a limited repertoire.

6. BITCH, Puh-lease!!!
The REAL "scary" report:

NONE of the possible 'terruh attack' scenarios have changed in DECADES, and HEY:
Guess what: the GWB Administration hasn't lifted a G*ddamn finger to prevent ANY of them!

If I had a NUKE, or even just a 'dirty bomb', I would send it to the USA in a seaborn cargo container,
and I could rest assured that it had a 99% chance of escaping ANY INSPECTION at the US port of arrival.

And the space left over from the bomb would let me send 20 terrorists along with all the weapons and ammo they could contain in the 5 SUVs next to the porta-potty in the shipping container....

Or maybe I would just send 5 terrorists in 5 SUVs with 5 NUCLEAR BOMBS...
Since 99% of all cargo containers STILL go completely UNINSPECTED,just like 9-friggin-11 never even happened, I might just feel LUCKY!

7. Definitely another scare tactic
--Perhaps to shore up some political points on 'National Security' after noting that the public has no confidence in them regarding social security. Also, the drills they're planning to do should have begun at least two years ago.
