Just think back when Clinton was in office. It WILL go back to the left when a dem gets back in office, because, let's face it, the media shift back and forth like that. They always have. I mean Ellen Degeneres came out during the 90's and much of what was on television was MUCH more liberal. Granted we may still have Ellen Degeneres on television right now, but does she EVER utter a single word about homosexuality? Much less in a positive light? Do you ever REALLY hear a REAL liberal argument on television now? No. You don't, but if a dem, especially a liberal dem gets back in office, you will. It's like that for some reason.

3. Was the media that liberal during Clinton? |
|
Perhaps about social issues...
However, they were completely on board with Ken Star. They part of that whole campaign.
In contrast, they give * a free pass every time.

or maybe a little bit earlier, they were at least fairly liberal. I agree with you about the whole Ken Starr thing, but you have to take into account that most of the msm are just major gossipers. I mean what else is news if it isn't just the latest, most popular gossip on a worldwide scale? Who is doing what and to whom? Who is where? And what do they think about that? All they do is lick their finger, hold it up in the air, and see which way the wing is blowing, then go with it. Pretty much seems like the deal to me. When the Monica Lewinsky thing seemed to be taking off, they just happened to notice a little bit of $hit sticking to the finger once they stuck it up in the air, then like flies, they migrated to the major source of $hit at the time, hence, Ken Starr... ;)

the media will have to be reigned in before Dems re-take power. It's up to the masses to make this happen.

The question should be - how do the masses make that happen?

6. Dems will regain power despite the media - the corporate media is |
|
the enemy. Indeed a Fairness Doctrine would help - but it is now obvious that the media will deny us air and print for our views as the ridicule and mis-represent as ordered by the management and the GOP - and they will do this post any Dem electoral victory.

7. Is it really possible for dems to get elected... |
|
...when 50% plus of the population know nothing about their politicians except what they see and hear on the teevee?

14. Depends on the Democrat |
|
It also depends on whether or not the media corporations want to give up some power.
What a freak show we humans are. Some peole want "fairness" in the media, others want to control the messege with an iron fist, others just want to own a media company to give them a forum to sell other products that they own, others fight against mass media, others fight for greater consolidation, others just want to make some money, etc, etc. That dance never stops.
We're just spinning around a star, with no real destination, making it all up as we go along.

15. The media don't need to be reined in |
|
they need to be pushed to be free and independent media again.
They are reined in now -- pulled back and cautious and afraid of insulting the government for fear of reprisals.
Free the media!

Regardless of what the Dems would or wouldn't do in power, haven't we had enough "reining in"? Between the FCC and Fox and everybody else under the conservative thumb, is contolling the media something we really want?

19. Is FOX acting in a "cautious" way? |
|
I don't think so!
Instead, their coverage is aggressively slanted.

22. And if the rest of the media were free and unfettered |
|
they'd be pointing that out, and presenting the real news. What happened to the investigative reports, the nonpartisan push to force some light into government (of either party)?
Fox is nothing but a tool for the right. I don't think that means a tool for the left is the necessary "cure". I think an independent media would supply people with the facts -- and since the facts support our side, that would be good for us. We don't have to play the propoganda game -- truth would work just fine, thanks.

17. It depends on what you mean by reign in |
|
The Liberal side of the equation generally has strong feelings on the importance of freedom of the Press. I mean if they found proof that Matthews or other commetnators were taking money from the RNC to report the news a certain way, well, they might go after that. 21. Explain the question? |
|
Does this mean laws that demand x amount of time devoted to particular stories? What does this mean?
On the face of it, this is such a broad question that I have to say no. Please clarify exactly what 'rein in' means.
