A powerful and poignant team that could pry some southern states away from the BFEE. Not even southern male white voters could deny Cleland after what's happened in Iraq.

4. Cleland has been floated as a VP |

...this certainly is possible.
And can someone give me the link on the Cleland story?

2. I almost cried when I read the recent WP article on him. |

Georgians should hang their heads in shame for what was done to him during the campaign. I hope Saxby Chambliss rots in hell.

I'm from Georgia, and voted for Cleland. Some fishy crap went on in 2002, because we had 2 Democratic Senators and a Dem governor for 130 years (yes, 130) before that night. Now we have a repube governor, senator, and Zell Miller- who gets my respect, but let's be honest- he's really conservative.

But Cleland would have problems in this day and age. His being in a wheelchair might be subtly used by the media, some more than others (you know who I am talking about here), to project an aura of "weakness". I don't like it either, but a man in a wheelchair will have real problems getting elected in these superficial times. George Wallace had real problems in the 1976 Democratic primaries when he was constantly shown on TV in a wheelchair needing assistance to get in and out of car. I'm not so sure FDR would be elected today. I'm the first to say that Cleland was wronged in that Senate campaign and that Saxby Chambliss is a despicable, cowardy chickenhawk, but living in times when Americans want to feel like their president projects an image of strength, I'm afraid a man in a wheelchair will present the Democratic ticket with problems.
