The Department of Homeland Security is a Sham |
|
I have not watched the news on television for weeks for reasons obvious to most of us here. But last night I was too lazy to turn it off and I heard our local newscaster discussing the case of the abducted and murdered child I believe in Florida. I was traveling last week and missed most of the details of this case, but know the nuts and bolts.
What struck me about the details that I heard last night was that the registered pedophile that committed the crime was in possession of several SS#'s and several Driver's Licenses. This enabled him to get a job at the little girl's school. To his credit, our local newsman was outraged by this, but did not connect it to terrorism.
How is it, after four years and millions if not billions of dollars to Homeland Security, a registered pedophile who is not well-connected or funded can still obtain a fistful of fake I.D. and fly under the radar--especially in Florida which has been identified as the training ground for Atta? What exactly is being accomplished by this agency? I have to take my shoes off at the airport (and one time my clothes) but some scumbag in Florida can change his identity on a daily basis. What a joke.
I think this case and it's details should be more of an issue and I plan to write some letters.

1. Why didn't he have to get his fingerprints before getting a job |
|
at a school? It's one of the few places where I can see it being a very reasonable request to run a background check and fingerprints for anyone who will be working with our children or around them.

And shouldn't we be outraged that fake I.D. is still so readily available?

3. The real reason for creating this sham department... |
|
was to strip 10s of thousands of workers of their union and civil service protections. It should be obvious by now that bushco is only concerned about Americans if they are rich and white.
PS: I am concerned that you were strip searched at an airport. I'm sure it was not necessary. I wonder if we have any way to fight this?

was for Bush's own agenda. Remember those "terror alerts" were all political ploy's. I remember reading an article (I think on Snopes?) around the election that people have found out about that and then the whole Ohio thing happened. :eyes: At least the FBI told the truth about that. And disgusting you were stripped searched totally. Ugh. Taking your shoes off is one thing but all of your clothes in front of some stranger? Was it someone of the same sex as you?

the metal eyelets in my keds set off the metal detector...then, as it turned out, my jewelry. They asked me to take off my sweater and I had a tank top on underneath. I'm in my mid-50's and did not want to be standing in a crowd in a tanktop even with a bra on so I demanded a private room which they gave me. Two women checked me out and as I said it was my jewelry and sneakers.

9. It's disturbing enough when they decide they want to search you |
|
with how agressive they get. I've avoided a strip search, but I've had them grab and grope areas that if they weren't cop-types I would have caused them irreperable harm for being friend in a way that is completely inappropriate.
I'm not talking about a quick pat down, I'm talking about hands lingering WAY longer than they ever should in the Genetalias and secondary sexual areas, 1 man or 1 woman searching both genders... it's gotten disgusting and is unrealistic at the airports. You can't carry a lighter but their security is so weak that I could easily sneak on a number of things that could bring a plane down. (Not that I would, I'm a peaceful person, but I think, too much.)

4. Homeland Security has become a scam as well as |
|
a sham. If I remember correctly, the original idea of a security plan first was voiced by, of all people, Joe Lieberman. The Repubs co-opted it for their own use and their own rules. I can't recall any aspect of the Dept. of Homeland Security that has made us more secure. Money has gone to the heads of each branch of HS without any tangible production except propaganda.
