GAO to investigate BushCo Payments to Columnist
Link: http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGBWWTNEV6E.html

Snip: <Congressional investigators will probe whether the Bush
administration violated any laws when it paid syndicated columnist
Maggie Gallagher to help promote a marriage initiative, Democratic
Sens. Edward Kennedy and Frank Lautenberg said.
The Government Accountability Office informed the senators of the
probe in a letter sent March 24. >

Snip: <The GAO said its investigation of Gallagher will focus on whether
her contract with HHS violated federal law banning the use of public
money for publicity or propaganda.

Lautenberg said the administration has violated the trust of the
American people.

"The Bush administration is manufacturing propaganda, plain and
simple," said Lautenberg, of New Jersey.

"The president should put in place sound policies that benefit all
Americans rather than pay the press to promote bad policies," said
Kennedy of Massachusetts. >

1. Congressional investigators will probe ......
and giggle and wink and nod and we'll move on to more Shiavo. Much like the 911 Whitewash Commission.

3. can't we contact our senators
and press them to put pressure on the GAO to not just let this slip away? I realize this is an almost impossible reality, but what would it hurt?

4. I guess depends on your senator
I know mine would never listen but if you're senator might have a chance with some pressure I'd go for it.

6. I hope this is the beginning of many more investigations
into this criminal regime.

With a little luck maybe a few will start talking about the many criminal acts this president is directly and indirectly complicit in and it all comes tumbling down just like Watergate.

:) Didn't watergate take two years? Rumsfeld was with Nixon so he probably has learned well.

8. yes, watergate streched out about 2 years
It broke before the election and Nixon was out after serving 1 year in his second term. Since Shrub is considerably more corrupt than Nixon (and that takes some trying) it's always possible something might break that gets the ball rolling towards impeachment.

Given the sad state of affairs in America today and Shrub's rapidly declining popularity, impeachment is not a long shot by any means.

As it stands there is a lot of infighting going on inside the GOP right now and many are not happy with Bush. If Bush becomes a huge liability to the GOP, I can see a lot of republicans cutting the cord with this administration out of political survival.
