January 26, 2005 ...

"Yes, sir?" says the President of the United States.

"Jeff Gannon," four rows from the commander in chief, two years from his first White House press briefing and less than three years from his office job at an auto body repair shop, is one half-minute from blowing it.

Gannon, AKA James Dale Guckert, is about to ask the question that will strip the mask off who and what he is, crash fictitious "news outlet" Talon News and kick start demands in Congress for investigations into national security, White House access and definitions of media that are implied by his very presence in that room.

But Wait!

Before he asks that question ... Did we just say ... an auto body repair shop?

5. No kidding: The National Press Club Welcomes ... Jeff Gannon
Published: March 28, 2005 Updated 3:50 PM ET

.....Still, Press Club leaders will include Gannon on the panel April 8 that includes Wonkette.com editor Ana Marie Cox, National Journal's John Stanton, and others.

Gannon told E&P today that he always considered himself a legitimate journalist, and "perhaps their invitation is recognition of that."

Press Club President Rick Dunham, who also covers the White House for BusinessWeek, called Gannon "a figure in the news" who is involved in an important journalistic issue.

"The panel came together because we wanted to discuss some issues that came about from the Gannon case," said Mike Madden, a Gannett News Service reporter and a member of the Press Club's Professional Affairs committee, which is organizing the free event. "So we thought, why not try to get him?"

4. Guckert/Gannon has been a busy guy. Too busy to pay $20,000 in taxes.
Good story on the creep.

6. Hmmm. I'd like to humbly point out to my fello DUers
that this person, whoEVER he may be, has done a stellar job of keeping himself in the public eye -- even reduced as he is now, to a FrontPage website.

7. hmmmm, goes into the "escort industry" shortly before Smirk and
company come into Washington and moves to Washington no too long after. Is that about right? Perhaps someone in Washington persuaded him to move to Washington? All I know is that NO ONE, especially not a shadowy figure gets into the White House press room with out the approval of KKKarl. So is he Kkkarl's "kept" man "kept" by someone close to KKKarl?

that would be none of my business, right?

But, he's being fronted as a "reporter" from a "news" outlet that evaporates as soon as his escort services, um, surface.

I don't wish whoEVER this is ill. But, will not agree or withstand being lied to. Period.

Forget about the security breach, of letting whoEVER this is within a yard of the CIC during "wartime".

Never ending mendacity.

(Thank you, John, @ Americablog, for not giving MendacityCentral a free pass.)

9. Gannon's 21 Club

On March 16, 2005, a group of 21 Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee moved to block a Congressional investigation into how male escort Jeff "Bulldog" Gannon gained daily access to the White House for two years under a false name.
Why did they suppress evidence that would show who helped a gay prostitute evade Secret Service background checks and gain compromising access to the President of the United States? Why are these 21 Republicans so desperate to keep "Bulldog's" secrets? Shouldn't they be answering some questions about why they don't want any questions asked?
Here are 21 posters (one tailored for each Rep) asking people to ask these questions. They include their office numbers and the numbers of major news organizations. We need to have these widely distributed -- not only in their districts -- this must become a national issue.

There are also several general GannonGate posters (plus lots on "Hot Tub Tom" DeLay) on the main page:

Please forward the links liberally. We need to get these messages in front of eyeballs and get this scandal to the tipping point.
