I need help debunking a local newspaper article on Social Security...
The headline read something like "Young People Want Private Accounts."

I almost lost my lunch when I saw that! What a blatant propaganda piece.

Can anyone direct me to a post here about how young people oppose the Bush scam when they learn the details? I tried searching but my reference librarian skills seems sorely lacking.

3. I wonder if there are any polls on this issue.
But no offense to the young people, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't give a damn about this issue. They've been told their whole lives that there's a good chance Social Security won't be there for them. And they don't worry about Grandma having enough to live in - I'm not saying they don't care, it just (usually) isn't their concern, it's their parents (and, yes, I know there are lots of exceptions to this rule).

Plus simple mathmatics would suggest that if President Bush's hare-brained scheme worked, they would have, by far, the most to get out of it.

4. Poll finds reduced support on Soc. Sec.

Support for President Bush's plan to create personal Social Security retirement accounts which might include stocks or mutual funds has dropped over the last month among Americans under age 30, according to a poll released Thursday.

Young adults have been the strongest supporters of the proposal for months. Support among those 18-29 dipped from seven in 10 to just under half, according to the poll by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press. A quarter of young adults now say they're not sure how they feel about such personal accounts.
