Krugman's column points up the URGENCY of getting Democrats back in power
Not that they're necessarily worthy of it. But the Republicans are unmistakably unworthy of being the only party in power. They stink. They're ruining the country. They're endangering the world. They've got to go.

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/29/opinion/29krugman.html?hp

We can't count on restraint from people like Mr. DeLay, who believes that he's on a mission to bring a "biblical worldview" to American politics, and that God brought him a brain-damaged patient to help him with that mission.

What we need - and we aren't seeing - is a firm stand by moderates against religious extremism. Some people ask, with justification, Where are the Democrats? But an even better question is, Where are the doctors fiercely defending their professional integrity? I think the American Medical Association disapproves of politicians who second-guess medical diagnoses based on video images - but the association's statement on the Schiavo case is so timid that it's hard to be sure.

The closest parallel I can think of to current American politics is Israel. There was a time, not that long ago, when moderate Israelis downplayed the rise of religious extremists. But no more: extremists have already killed one prime minister, and everyone realizes that Ariel Sharon is at risk.

America isn't yet a place where liberal politicians, and even conservatives who aren't sufficiently hard-line, fear assassination. But unless moderates take a stand against the growing power of domestic extremists, it can happen here.

1. Don't want to be scared Don't want to be scared Don't want to be scared
But I am.

The way it happens is that people refuse to see it coming because it's so unpleasant.

Nobody wants to believe that America, what was the greatest hope the world had known, is now the greatest threat to itself and the planet.

3. You know..it figures... As the article states....
"Where are the Democrats?"

Being a Computer Tech.. I talk to a lot of people and I often hear (from Republicans) that the "Democrats should do something about the deficit, health care Etc".

I swear..I have to bite my tongue to keep from saying..
"What the hell do you expect them to do?....you've elected every slime-ball Repug that has ever crawled out from under a rock, you've cut off the balls of the Democratic party so they have almost no power at all and now you're whining about it...screw YOU"

But of course...I say very little..what's the use?

with a plan that gets ripped by the Gingrichs, which provides them with rich propaganda and air time. They don't play fair. Bi-partisan is just a hypenated word.

5. The solution to the nation's decline is to stop with the Republican habit
already, you freakin' morons! Stop voting for freakin' Republicans! Doesn't that seem like a simple solution? Boycott Republicans!

11. I feel utterly hopeless about the electoral system.
Even if Americans are not as thick as they seem to be, even if they're as fed up with theocrats and plutocrats as most DUers, we may not actually know because the electoral system keeps shitting Repiublicans out of its ass.

12. One thing we know for sure
Bush made sure he was immune from the anthrax attack when he began taking Cipiro 30 days BEFORE the event. I guess he had a direct line to Miss Cleo.
