This might sound like horrible musings...
So hang in there with me for a moment. I find myself wondering Terri's parents might in fact be interested in money at this point, having let their daughter go ages back. I know this sounds insensitive, but given the facts and the following latest:
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/29/politics/29donate.html?ei=5088&en=eff131665ae17165&ex=1269752400&partner=rssnyt&pagewanted=print&position=

It just seems very odd to me that the parents would not consider at least some dignity for their child upon her death. While I understand their inability to let go, at some point just simple respect for your own child and her memory would be more important, no? I mean, they have made her a tool for the GOP, but I had thought out of grief or desperation. However, as more news comes out, it seems to me that we may have confused grief with something else.

I know I am going to get smacked on this one, but I just had to ask the questions: am I insensitive for starting to believe this?

1. isn't there some story in the bible
about two people pulling on a child and the one that really loves the child the most will let go before they tear the kid in half?

5. Don't ask for the verse
but that was about King Solomon (Old Testament). Two women were fighting over a child. Who was the real mother of the child. King Solomon decided rather than try to rule, the equitable solution would be to cut the child in half and give a part to each of the women. When the one woman screamed no don't kill the child give it to the other woman, King Solomon said, "You, woman, ARE the real mother of that child". Something like that.

2. Guilt and Religion
I also thing it is beyond their daughter too at this point. However, given the information that has come out about Teri's dieting throughout her childhood, is guilt involved in her parents motives too? I also feel they have become almost fanatical at this point in time over the religious issues. I have heard them make statements about their religion (Catholic) which at best are questionable and at worst outright untrue. There is also an old saying that you will be judged by the company you keep, in this case, Randall Terry. That alone speaks volumes. Are they exploiting their daughter for a "cause"?

3. Then smack me too...
The right-wing has been asking this question: "Why would her husband want Terri dead?", then go on with the money factor (which is basically non-existent due to medical expenses).

So I've asked the same question, alternatively: "Why would her family want her alive?" And add the alternative answer - the money factor.

And the right-wing says liberals are ghouls.

4. Somewhere else I heard

it mentioned, What kind of guilt may the parents be acting on? Do they have guilt that Terri was bulimic? There are root causes behind those sorts of diseases. Some may be family related.

6. I am just thinking
About what my parents and I spoke about regarding this whole mess and my own illness. My parents both said, and I agreed, that to show your child on TV over and over, with all of the ugliness of illness, is in itself a betrayal. I would not want to be remembered that way, would you?

I would think just a picture of how lovely she was would be enough, not the sickness. What will people remember about that beauty? Nothing. They will only remember a body ravaged by illness. I found that really unethical to be quite honest. My parents (thank god, lol) agreed. We all agreed, my husband included, that my wishes were more important. Aside from that, my dignity was more important.

I also think lying about her begging for her life is beyond low. You can be desperate, but you need not bring your daughter down to the level of talking puppet. Thank god for my parents. I am very lucky. Do you find yourself suddenly feeling more appreciative of your parents?

7. that's not horrible and insensitive; THIS is horrible and insensitive
You think I should be gettin' chubby
Well you can ask my hubby
All these tubes are such a pain
And I’d still be getting thinner
Still be puking up my dinner
If I only had a brain

There wouldn’t be this circus
Or these wack jobs trying to jerk us
For cynical political gain
And I don’t think they’d love it
When I told them all to shove it
If I only had a brain

CNN could carry Jacko
Instead of all these wackos
Circling the drain
My picture wouldn’t look retarded
Or like I had just farted
If I only had a brain
