Md. Senate urged to rename BWI to Thurgood Marshall
Good, that'll make up for the fact that the other major airport in the DC area is named after the worst president of all times (Ronald Reagan)

ANNAPOLIS -- Supporters of a bill to rename Baltimore-Washington International Airport after Thurgood Marshall brought the widow of the lawyer and civil rights activist to Annapolis on Monday to put pressure on the state Senate to approve the bill.

"I think it's important to keep his name up there so people will remember his legacy," Cecilia Marshall said. Despite her late husband's achievements in bringing an end to legal segregation in the United States, "there's so much work left to be done," she said.

The House has approved the bill to rename the airport the Thurgood Marshall Baltimore-Washington International Airport, but it has run into trouble in the Senate, where some members think the name change would hurt the state's efforts to market the airport as a gateway to Washington as well as Baltimore.

1. Excellent Idea
I will go out of my way to fly out of there instead of National if they do that!

2. Great
What a terrific idea. I would pay extra money to fly into Baltimore and avoid National airport.

3. HOORAY!
FANTASTIC IDEA!

I REFUSE to call National by any other name. And up until Dubya, Reagan WAS the worst president. Now he's only the 2nd worst.

But I'll be damned if I honor that horrible man in any way, shape, or form!

4. "Would hurt the state's efforts to market the airport"
as a gateway to Washington?

Pop quiz: With which city is Thurgood Marshall most readily identified? Washington, or Baltimore?

Answer: (duh) Washington, where he served with distinction on the Supreme Court for 34 years. The fact that he came from Baltimore doesn't hurt, either, if you're looking for a figure to represent both cities.

My patented freeperese-English translation software gives this result: "The name change would hurt the state's efforts to market the airport to racist white bigots who pine for the days of Lester Maddox."
